This was pretty kick ass, Scotty. You really represented the film well and made a game that (for me anyway) emulated the feeling I get watching it. That of wanting things to turn out okay and knowing that they will not (and they didn't).Scotty wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:14 pm Thanks for playing y’all. I’ve been tinkering with this game off and on for 2 years and it’s nice to see it be played by people who showed up to play it. That’s all I can ask, and while it is role madness, the swings kept the sides super close all the time. Every day phase the pendelum was swinging.
If anyone has any questions on the happenings I’ll do my best to answer.
I’ll say the biggest wtf moment for me was tutuu opening up a 1 in 3 gift from a dead Kate and her having a 10% chance to die from it. I don’t know what the actual odds are on that, but that Hail Mary kill blew my mind

Very fun setup Scotty. Well done.
Tough for me. I was trying to align with somebody, ANYBODY, because I know damn well I would never make it LMS.

Re: Se7en Mafia [Day 3]
From the Setup:MacDougall wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 9:54 pm Your perspective here is probably very helpful honestly because honestly I think your game building mindset is most like Scotty's so your instincts about the setup are probably better than mine.
The phrasing of the first red bit is passive voice. That's understandable, given the author wouldn't want us to know WHO is making those choices.
However, the phrasing of the second red bit is different. It says "3rd parties have the opportunity to change alignment." Opportunity is different from being recruited with no choice.
Therefore, point number one:
This is not a recruitment-style game. John Doe doesn't pick anybody.
From that we can infer point number two:
Anybody who can change alignments has, in some capacity, a method to accomplish that.
What do we know for sure about that?
Let's look at Kate's role description:
Last Man Standing is generally impossible, especially without a kill. You are self aligned. Your current win condition is to be the last man standing.
Wording is important here. "Are killed in any way" is another passive voice. To me this implies that Kate's gifts did not have killing power.Alternatively, if 2 different players that open one of your gifts are killed in any way, your alignment will change:
-You will become mafia, gaining BTSC with all other members a full phase after becoming mafia.
Therefore, to become mafia, Kate needs two of her recipients to die in order to leave LMS status.
Presumably, Kate had one chance to give a present and gave it to Dennis. Seanzie's testimony and Mac's tracking would lead us to believe that gift was BTSC, which also means Kate thought her kid was doomed. Great job mom!
Under the above framework, if Dennis is John Doe, this would have been a coincidence. Seanzie believed big time that Dennis is Greed. So who knows. Killing Dennis won't make Kate mafia because Kate is dead (and there are no resurrections) and presumably didn't get to target two people anyway. The move kills potential mafia or John Doe.
The "gaining BTSC with all other members a full phase after becoming mafia" doesn't strike me as something restricted to Lust. So I propose point number three:
Sins that become mafia members only gain BTSC after a full phase (and to me, that suggests not knowing their team until then).
Don't we all?You represent the inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
So Kate was not mafia but could have become such.
pyxxy's case is trickier.
Obviously there isn't anything but a mafia alignment there, but pyxxy accomplished whatever goal there was rather quickly. If we fixate on Kate's "two targets" rule, it may have been that pyxxy hit the two dead mark Night 2, became mafia, and then died.
If so, given point three, pyxxy would never have even KNOWN of the alignment change in time (and didn't receive BTSC).
And if I'm right about that, digging through pyxxy's posts is a fool's errand.
++++
Despite the gleeful thrill going through the thread about Kate and Dennis, please look at the colors:
That's four dead civilians, one dead independent, and one dead mafia member. No dead John Doe.
Are things going well? Let's check in.

Townies early in the game are genuinely solving and more likely to be voting their scumreads. The wolves are more likely to throw votes behind players who are making themselves the leader of the wagon ie. Kate for Tutuu and me for Porscha.
I'm not saying no town will have sheeped but I am saying that the vc as the Tutuu and Porscha wagons were emerging is very likely to have wolves voting on it. Particularly ones that voted for bad reasons (or no reasons) who if town would be less inclined to make the vote ie. Wilgy voting Tutuu which I find to be very careless for him.
This is not your standard mafia experience, I'm afraid.

I am not of the view that the sins consider themselves necessary to achieve the mafia wincon.
In the later quote I am speculating that the sins, while mafia siding, don't have the same level of self preservation instinct as John Doe himself would.
What are you trying to imply?
Finally caught up and can say things that hopefully make sense.

Do you think Dennis would enjoy being John Doe though? I haven't seen him around since things went down with him and Kate.

Re: Se7en Mafia [Day 2]
The basic ideas are these:Thunal33 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 1:52 pmI still have this lingering paranoia that Kate and Dennis being outed is too easy. Kate trusted Sean so much she apparently sent him a screenshot of her role and hinted about Dennis. Afaik she played with Seanzie and so would know he does gambits like that so why would she immediately be so trusting? And why would Dennis give up at the same time as Kate when he wasn't 100% outed?S~V~S wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 6:58 amI meant to address this earlier, but Fathers Day and anything most people said would have become lost in yesterdays lusty thread. I also know it's moot at this point, but i didn't want to leave it to hang.Spoiler: show
After Hot Dog Fingers, Kate and I decided never to do that again. That game was really stressful because of that, that we were taking alot of flak for being two old friends who *met* playing Mafia being confident on our reads of each other. If I suspect her, I'll make a case, and if I don't I'll put her in a reads list if I make one. And she agreed.
Had she done so, it would have been a huge red flag to me. I was even kind of thinking that was why she didn't make a reads list, she was trying to avoid it. But obvs it was becasue she was bad lol
I already voted Dennis, we need to resolve him. I have tinfoil that he's actually Doe, hence his Mom devoting so much time to thread spamming, to keep his name out of peoples mouths one more day. And while she seemed to inexplicably (Kate is pretty paranoid, I look forward to reading that chat post game to see just WHY she trusted him at all) trust Sean, I am not sure she would have given up Doe to him or anyone else if Doe was her actual son. Giving him another day to gather a team. It didn't say in Kates role that she needed Doe alive to become bad, but having played a similar role, it's a strong possibility imo that that might be the case.
I checked the First Post, and it was not updated to show any baddies other than Doe, I guess we are not being informed of this, so I'm assuming with Pyxxys flip that we're in a regular Mafia game now and there could be more. I plan to do some rereading today with that in mind.
There's a good chance it really is that easy and I'm not focusing on this tinfoil, but it is interesting.
Seanzie threatens to pick Mac. Mac kills him.
Seanzie threatens to pick Mac. Someone else kills him to make Mac look bad.
Elementary stuff, sure.
Here's what has me squinting.
Unlike the clearheaded civilian Seanzie I experienced just yesterday (elsewhere), Seanzie here was unhinged. Bragging, saying wild things, being goofy etc.
Is that how you want your DA to behave? Bad spelling, bad punctuation. Talking about "bevvies" with Mac.
Seanzie acted more like a guy wearing lots of bubble wrap with a bomb strapped to his chest going on about how safe it is. Making a Youtube. Or a TikTok. Or whatever the hell passes for entertainment where someone meets his maker.

I acknowledged that I was horsing around.Thunal33 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 12:22 amOn the curse thing, I do think it's weird since I don't think anyone else had a forced roleplay or any sort of restriction beyond mine and Tutuu's notes warning us not to talk much yesterday.MacDougall wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 12:15 amDo we really believe Epi had a curse? What if he was just trying to encourage the sins to signal to him?
Most of Epi's ISO is like, okay in a "this is standard Epi" way but these two posts on day 2 kind of stand out as being awkward for him. @Jackofhearts2005 @DrWilgy @S~V~S you probably have the most experience with him. These posts lack the curmudgeonliness I associate with town Epi. Like he seems a bit more proactive, in a not very good way?Epignosis wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 10:44 pmI don't agree. Re: Se7en Mafia [Day 3]
MacDougall:
You scream how much you are "solving," but you're not. You're guessing. Which is fine. You're being loud with those guesses. That's also fine. But I read your long p90x spiel that rambled, and my thought was "But there aren't enough players to match the roles for that theory." Someone else immediately raised that point and you said Nanook didn't read to the end of your nonsense. But what does it matter? Do you believe your nonsense?
Pretend your theory is correct: What do you DO with that idea if it's right?
And after that it was just a meltdown. Your second one this game.
I was not a liar. And my play (Jailkeeping Cape) helped bring us to a swift Day 2 win. Which meant, according to your assessment, I was stupid.
I don't take offense at that- I've got thick skin- so whatever.
But not everybody thinks like you, and without any ounce of disrespect intended, that's a damn good thing.

The last game we just finished and won, you called me either a liar or an idiot. If you don't recall that post, I'll grab it.MacDougall wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 3:29 am I am not sorry at all for calling this nonsense out for what it is.
At best it's terrible town play from the both of you. Hiding behind bogus "I'm sheeping Seanzie" crap doesn't track for fuck because I've been townier than Seanzie on day 3 by about 50. I don't even give a shit about him outing Kate. I outed Kate as well. You have no reason to take this line with me. I am blatantly obvious town and I'm not just gonna cop it. It's my job as a townie to call out bullshit like this.
If Seanzie actually alignment checks me, he needs to find a new hobby for real. It's an absolutely woeful decision. Almost as bad as the decision you and him have both apparently found yourselves to in tilting me off the map while I was actually hyper solving the fucking game. That's actually just super wolfy honestly. Here I am actually getting my hands dirty and solving and now of all times you decide tilting me off the reservation is optimal?

One more thing: To whomever gave me the note that said I should post a lot, thanks for doing so on the weekend when I work. That was thoughtful of you.
But I'm going to fuck off and play video games because that sounds more fun.

Re: Se7en Mafia [Day 2]
Thanks. That all sounds reasonable at first glance.
One more question if you don't mind:
How do you view the idea that Kate and Dennis are okay with how things are playing out?
Forgive me if you already answered this and I glossed over it. Long day.

I don't suspect MacDougall. I don't have the strength to, and I don't think he does either if he's John Doe.

Since you're the hero of the day, might I ask for a morsel or two on each as to why you think that?Seanzie wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 9:05 pmIf I had to order the list it would probably be

No pressure- hunting a singular person is hard, but apparently you've had some fun behind the scenes to get you to this point.

Everything I said S~V~S about your posts was true. I do not think you are evil in this one. Most everything you say makes sense to me, and I even like that you took the time to correct some shit about the movie so I didn't have to. Props.

Anyway, read everything. And by "read everything," I mean I skipped a LOT of shit.
Think Kevin Spacey is the more important objective, but I'm not going to fault people for taking the bird(s) in the hand.
I'll move my vote but it will be a symbolic gesture.

I was full of shit. I wasn't forced to do anything. I did a thing and got bored with it after a while. Thought I'd make something up because you would think misleading people would be a big sin on the list, and the thought amused me.S~V~S wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 8:48 amWhat? I DID kinda like that post, and you puffed me up a bit. I assumed you meant it becasue it would have been too obvious as a pocket attempt. So
Second, you were trargeted with a posting condition on Day One? How does that happen? I am on page 33, so sorry if you already addressed this. But I don't understand how that would happen, and it really wasn't that obvious, so why did you feel the need to address it?
linki @tutuu , k, I wasn't sure I understood your point, and wanted to make sure I did.
