FORMAT
1) Day periods last 48 hours. Night periods last 24 hours. No thread discussion is permitted at night, except that each player is permitted one reaction post to the lynch.
2) Mafia may only interact in BTSC at night. They will select a player to nightkill during these periods.
3) The player with the most votes each day will be lynched. Only votes made in the lynch poll will count. Ties will be decided with a coin flip.
4) Votes in the lynch-poll are changeable. On Day 1, there will also be a No Lynch option. Self-votes are permitted.
5) The civilian cop will get one free "peek" before Day 1 begins. On ensuing night periods, the cop may select another player to role-check.
6) The doctor will select one player to protect from the mafia's nightkill each night period.
7) No double-targeting (targeting the same player on consecutive nights).
8) All players on the side of the winning faction will also win, whether dead-or-alive.
9) All roles will be revealed upon death.
10) Role-claiming and info-dumping are permitted. Each player will receive a Role-Card corresponding with their alignment. Each mafia member will also receive a fake Role-Card that is similar to a civilian's.
11) At the end of the game, players may submit votes to the host for the MVP of the game.

RULES
1) No asshattery will be tolerated. This is a game, and is intended for the pleasure of everyone. Please be respectful to your fellow players, host, and mod.
2) BTSC (behind the scenes chatter) is only permitted in host-designated locations. Dead players and Non-players, there will be a Spectator Chat thread, so please make sure you post in the correct thread if you are taking advantage of this function.
3) No editing or deleting of posts in the game thread.
4) Dead players should post in the {Dead} Red if they are posting in the game thread.
5) Non-Players should similarly post in {Non-Player} Blue if they are posting in the game thread.
6) Living players wishing to discuss something off-topic should do so in {Off-Topic} Green.
7) This is the Host Color. Use it at your own risk.

DAY 1

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees...

It is now Day 1. You have 48 hours to lynch somebody.

If a tree wins a poll in the forest but nobody is around to hear it, does it get lynched?

attempting to start conversation about currently barely-relevant game mechanics on day 1 seems like the opposite of a meaty day 1 to me and has a record of being pretty scummy behaviour.

Who said I was attempting to start conversation at all, let alone about something as silly as that? I'm starting the action itself (indirectly of course, but you better believe I will take full credit), and given that I have triggered the first mention of "scummy behaviour" in the game, it seems to have worked. :slick:

The civilian cop gets a free ID on another vanilla civilian to start the game.

Assuming we are in a paradigm with a cop, it behooves the town to keep the cop alive as long as possible, as well as it does the cop to make sure that we know what their information might have been when they die.

Therefore, a "peek" is providing that free ID. For the cop, it would be the legitimate free ID; for a vanilla civilian, it would be a "fake peek" in an attempt to throw off the mafia.

Here Jay discusses peeks and fake peeks in detail in the Pet Sounds Mafia spectator chat. I highly recommend it for reading.

To gauge reactions, and not just from you. I think baddies are most vulnerable at the start of the game, so I'd like to raise the chances of catching them in the awkward stage before they've adjusted to the temperature.

It's like they're slowly dipping their feet into a cold pool and my job is to run up from behind and shove them in.

I think nothing of him.

I don't understand why he signed up if he really did want to take a break, but like Diiny I've been there many times myself, because I love the game. That said, I feel as though he's still trying to develop a playstyle. He struggled to post on-topic in Talking Heads, so one could say that he struggles to post on-topic more as mafia, but I'm not willing to make that jump just yet.

Why do you think he's mafia? Your observation has to do with a decision he made independent of his role card, so do you have any thread-specific thoughts on him yet?

Yeah, of all the off topic stuff this one pinged me the most. I don't know why. It might be because this is already seriously reminding me of floyd's previous game where he was scum combined with that being his only game. Might be because it's an interaction with someone who isn't playing; it's more timid.

Floyd, say something game relevant please :D

In that scenario everyone is going to claim the same thing, though, and this is where my problem with doing so explicitly lies. With everyone providing peeks, everyone inherently claims cop. when we do our peeks zeb's claim is going to change to cop because she'll be providing her peek. providing peeks is a good thing, but my point is that there's no point to also saying 'I'm cop/civ/etc' in a setup where everyone is claiming the same thing other than pushing your own towniness.

Diiny, that is not what I am telling you. I told you I am gauging reads with my actions; I did not tell you that I would be basing my conclusions off of any conversation. I'm curious; are you genuinely confused as to what I'm doing which is only a single instance of the foundation for my entire play style, or are you having me spell it out so explicitly so it will be less effective and the baddies I'm trying to discover will no longer have their guards down? Help me out.

At a stage in the game where nobody's going to claim anything else, yes. But obviously it's not always pointless.
