GIANT PANDAS vs RED PANDAS
a game for 15 pandas

This is a setup made by Cat Fart and Mattster321 from the Pokemon Showdown mafia chat. With some adaptations made by @Dragon D. Luffy and @Soneji! Then I decided to add my fav thing to the flavor, PANDAS! Here is a link to Space Invaders 1.

Setup:

There are two factions: Giant Panda and Red Pandas.

Giant Pandas (11)

- Do not have BTSC
- Win the game when all Red Pandas are eliminated.

1 Leader of the Giant Pandas (known as Leader)

- Is confirmed by the host at the start of the game.
- May remove one player each day at EoD (they choose the yeet target basically).

Other 10 Giant Pandas (doctors)

- May protect one player from Red Panda kills each night.
- Only has 4 shots. After those shots are used, cannot protect anymore.
- Self-protecting is allowed, but only once per Giant Panda.

Red Pandas (4)

- Have BTSC.
- Win the game if they either eliminate the Leader at any time, or win at parity.
- On odds nights, the Red Pandas make one kill together. The kill will work if no Giant Pandas are protecting the target.
- On even nights, if there are 2 or more Red Pandas alive, the faction can perform up to 2 kills. If both kills aim for the same target, they will only survive if being protected by at least 2 Giant Pandas. If they aim for different targets, a single Giant Panda may stop each kill.

This game does not have yeets. The Leader will basically be responsible for carrying the town faction's kill, or in this case, caging the Red Pandas and returning them to their sanctuary cos Red Pandas too cute to kill wtf. There will be a poll to help the players organize the discussion, but that poll has no effect on gameplay, and the Leader makes the final decision on who to kill at EoD!

Rules

- This game is divided into day phases and night phases 24/24. Day phases are when the Leader makes their kill. They must send a kill to the host within 25 hours of the day start, or the host will pick it at random. I will make sure to talk with the Leader beforehand to align the day end times to one they and I are comfortable with.

- Night phases are when the Giant Pandas and Red Pandas send their actions. Actions will be accepted 23 hours after the end of day write-up is posted. Night posting is allowed, with a limit TBD.

- There will be a poll for voting on players, but it will have no effect on gameplay, and is used just to help organize the discussion. Voting on it is not mandatory.

- Double targeting is allowed.

- This is what the Giant Panda role card looks like:
Spoiler: show
You are a Giant Panda!

You are a member of town. You win the game when you eliminate the Red Pandas.

Once per night, you may protect one player from a single Red Panda kill.

You have 4 shots of protection to use.

You can protect yourself, but only once in the game.

@JaggedJimmyJay do you think Space Invaders v1 was balanced and just unlucky or do you think any tweaking needs to be done?

I’ll need to give this one some thought. :ponder:

I’d normally say 11 vs. 4 is mafia-sided in a vanilla+ game. This one is fundamentally different though in its construction, so it’s less clear. I’ll consult with my brain.

I haven't done a deep dive into comparing this to Space Invaders, at glance it looks very similar. What, if any, are the key differences?

I only learned a couple of days ago that there is no close evolutionary relationship between red pandas and giant pandas. Their only meaningful similarity is in the name.

If the town plays perfectly mechanically, their winrate becomes 3/7 (equivalent to 4:10 nightless). Given this, I would say the setup is not close to balanced. The town EV is probably around 25-30%.

Setups are designed to make FlaSh mortal, balance is irrelevant.
