So far i am loving the poetry <3

We have decided that we will extend the deadline to tomorrow so we can put the poetry to the thread to judge over the weekend.

Also, at this point, if someone was to recruit 2 people, they would win that prize as well :)

We want to start next weekend, and we will need probably 48 hours from the time signups close to the start of Night Zero. So with only 8 to go, we can do that if we fill up by Wednesday, an auspicious day for this game :)

How do you recruit for a sockpuppet game?

We don't know who is playing, so we don't know who to recruit? And if we did recruit them, and won the prize, then wouldn't their identity no longer be secret?

Well, we don't add the people in order you know, lol. You would know someone was playing, but not who they were in game. Same for them, "Just a friendly Are you going to sign up for AG? I haven't decided yet, but if you do, tell them i sent you, lol" or some such. Total secrecy never lasts long in these things :)

But I see your points

Apollo, God of the Sun, demands poetry to evaluate.

Also, I feel that Helios is slightly infringing on my dominion, just FYI.

By the time i was able to get here last night, it was so late (I am not in game mode yet  ~ I am usually more prompt) I did not want to post the lovely poetry at a time where it would end so late. Poetry coming up :)

If there was an entry from anyone who won the first contest, they cannot win. So if they were to have the most votes, second place would win. One prize only. Although anyone may state a preference, only votes by Sockpuppets will count. Please BOLD YOUR VOTE IN THE THREAD You have until Monday morning at 10 Am Eastern time (@ 48 hours from now)

Good Luck :)

This is a haiku
about mighty Cthulhu
who hates these haikus
Second

The Cthulhu Stomp

[Sung to the tune of The Monster Mash]

I was working on deciphering some eldritch tome
Sitting comfortably in my Arkham home
When suddenly I felt something that gave me a chill
A violent quaking at my windowsill

There was a stomp!
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp
(Cthulhu Stomp)
Merely an Elder God romp
(it was a stomp)
He rose out of the swamp
(A fetid swamp)
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp

The moon was waxing gibbous in the sky so weird
Shining down on Starspawn that made me afeared
One of them looked at me and said “Hey man, are you hep?
Why don’t you come on out and boogie with Nyarlathotep?”

He did the stomp!
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp
(Cthulhu Stomp)
Merely an Elder God romp
(there was a stomp)
He rose out of the swamp
(A fetid swamp)
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp

I threw caution to wind and out the window I flew
With my black eyeliner on, and my punk hairdo
An Elder Thing passed by and said “You’re pretty Goth,
How would you like to party with my man Azathoth?”

They did the stomp!
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp
(Cthulhu Stomp)
Merely an Elder God romp
(there was a stomp)
They rose out of the swamp
(A fetid swamp)
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp

We stayed up all night until the break of dawn
Reading quotations from the Necronomicon
To the Mountains of Madness we’ll repair presently
While Cthulhu and his chums devour all humanity!

They’ll do the stomp!
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp
(Cthulhu Stomp)
Merely an Elder God romp
(there’ll be a stomp)
They rose out of the swamp
(A fetid swamp)
It’s the Cthulhu Stomp
Third

Cthulhu, my love
Please rot me intimately
My holes are for you
Fourth

The Call of Cthulu: A Haiku

cry from depths he pines
bubbling up, cruelly tempting.
paean to pain. but whose?

:SVS:
Fifth

Here is my poem. I hope that you like it.

A Love Letter to Cthuhlu

I'm in love with a boy named Cthulhu.
If I could take you on a date we'd get curry.
I get madras and you'd get vindaloo.
Are you hungry? C'mon, let's hurry.

Off at the beach then we would stand.
You swim so easily, with all those tentacles.
Your wings make angels in the sand.
The sun on your feelers is today's pinnacle.

Next we'd go off to the pictures.
Finally, alone at long last in the dark,
smelling the way you do, of salty tinctures
Deep within my chest, I'd feel quite the spark.

After some tea, we head for the zoo.
You might not be a mongoose, llama or wombat,
But you'll always be my boo.
No matter what, you can't stop that.

But I'm just a peon, and you are a god.
I may be cute, but still - humans are lame!
So I'll weep and whine and lust for your bod,
And get down to business; it's time for the game!
Skip softly, my moonbeams, for I have heard tell
That the stairs up to heaven lead straight down to hell

Two of the haiku entries seem to "Cthulhu" has three syllables, which it obviously doesn't, so they are out. The contest clearly specified a poem, not a song, so The Cthulhu Stomp fails miserably to follow the rules. The third haiku has a youtube video as well, which seems like cheating. Therefore, Apollo, God of the Sun, casts his vote for Fifth: A Love Letter To Cthulhu. Congratulations, process of elimination!

I was curious about that, because I thought "Cthulhu" has three syllables. I went and looked into it, and it turns out it does.

So you just eliminated 2 of the entries for no reason. :P

I will read through all the entries and think about it before I cast my vote.

Right, because a youtube video MUST be correct.

Utter nonsense. Cthulhu isn't pronounced kuh-thu-lu any more than "strength" is pronounced suh-tuh-ren-guh-thuh. The "k" sound is slurred together with the "th" to make a single consonant cluster.Kind of like the "t" in tsunami (not tuh-soo-nam-ee.)

Lovecraft transcribed the pronunciation of Cthulhu as "Khlûl'hloo" (IPA: [ˈχɬʊl.ɬuː] ?).[3] S. T. Joshi points out, however, that Lovecraft gave several differing pronunciations on different occasions.[4] According to Lovecraft, this is merely the closest that the human vocal apparatus can come to reproducing the syllables of an alien language.[5] Long after Lovecraft's death, the pronunciation /kəˈθuːluː/ kə-thoo-loo became common, and the game Call of Cthulhu endorsed it.

I don't like rewritten songs. I also am of the 2 syllable opinion. And the rhythm scheme in 5 really doesn't work (and some of the rhymes are a stretch). So, I :

We seem to be having a tempest in a teapot in another thread regarding sockpuppets knowing the identities of other sockpuppets. The net result of this so far is that a contest I had planned (the ever popular "Guess Who is Whom") has been removed from the contest roster. I have had to remove 2 contests now (the other was for "Guess Which Avis Were the Hosts Favorites", and both of them were changed by players, lol).

I am taking the fault for this on myself for not spelling things out more clearly.

First Rule of Sockpuppets

We do NOT talk about Sockpuppets. We do not tell people we are playing (which was a good point Athena made about a recruiting contest in a sock game being pointless~ sometimes the host needs to be schooled, and Thanks Athena for doing it :daisy: ) and we do NOT tell people our secret identities.

Other rules of Sockpuppets

We do NOT change anything the host has set in our account (except the invisibility thing which i stupidly forgot to do)

I have had one person call for an Sockpuppet reset (no contest results changed or anything else, just sock IDs) but that would entail a lot of work on the part of the hosts (especially on the part of Juliets, and i would prefer to avoid that as she works really, really hard as it is :) ) and confusion on the parts of the players, and it would make angst & drama that is not a part of this game, a part of this game. I would prefer to leave that all in the "Angst & Drama Mafia" game which is where it belongs (and i call dibs on that game idea  )

So If anyone else would like to do that, let me know. But I am hoping to leave the status quo, quo. K?

Hello everyone!

We had a really good question come in about the sock puppet accounts and thought we should share the answer with everyone. The question was:

With sockpuppets, should we refrain from saying things that would give our identities away? Is it a tactical move to maybe mask one's identity if you have a playing style that people don't understand or that is very recognizable?

Sockpuppets are used to mask your identity so people don't suspect you for being *you*, or trust you for the same reason. Or base suspicions or lack thereof on your usual behavior. So hinting at or saying things that might make you more identifiable are generally a bad idea. The point is like playing dress up; you can pretend to be someone else and try on a new game style, or see other people differently. I played one sock game where the host did not even want us telling our BTS partners who we were - for S~V~S the hardest part of suckpuppetry is "~"; masking her tilde :) . I have even seen people use her tilde as if they were her!

People will try to "nudge" people, to say things they think might get certain people to tip their hand. So play Dress Up, *be* whoever you want to be, not necessarily your real site self. It gives you and advantage that people can't say "well I know how he plays and ...". This is part of the fun of playing mafia with sockpuppet accounts.

So, with that in mind have fun playing as someone that no one knows!

Please continue to ask any questions you have about this or any other aspect of the game.

Generally, since I am one of the first 2 people in most sock games to cross post as my real self, I would say that "suckpuppetry" would best apply to me :haha:

I was texting a friend before, and my phone autocorrected it to "sockpuppies"~ perhaps Vesta would approve of those?
