One of my favorite games when I worked at a record store was polling people on their favorite band with a bird name, or a place name or similar criteria. Incidentally, all bands named after locations are bad, except Boston, which is still kind of bad.

Some bird bands for you:

The Eagles (worst band ever)
Hawkwind
Budgie
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Old Crow Medicine Show
Pelican
Kestrel

I was thinking this morning about how much I hate The Eagles and it caused me to not be able to go back to sleep. I think Of Montreal, while not musically brilliant, isn't terrible. And I rather like Architecture in Helsinki. I've seen them live and it was a good show.

Architecture in Helsinki doesn't really count because the band name is more about the architecture than the place. Of Montreal is tougher, but the "Of" does mitigate things a bit. Here are some of the examples I was thinking of:
Berlin
Europe
Asia
Kansas (shh! Don't tell Rob!)
Chicago (no DP, their early work doesn't make up for the later suck)
Boston (sort of good, but still kind of bad)
America
Japan

There is a band called England that is supposedly good, but I have not heard them yet.

There's that indie band Manchester Orchestra, which is not Manchester's Orchestra. I've always found that confusing. Also, I do not care for the indie band one jot.

I'd also like to add Frightened Rabbit to the list of animal bands. I don't think we got that one yet.

I mostly agree, but Japan is pure brilliance.
