Its an open setup, there's only 2 roles possible. He's the one who claimed, under no pressure btw, so he may as well just come clean if he is in fact what he claims.

We just played a game where both town and mafia did.

There's no need to pressure him about it or try to make him out his role further than what he has already stated.

I disagree. If player's want to make claims, then they should make the claim, not soft around the edges.
