i don't think the reverse yeet was that bad. we could have ensured that one person was left with 0 votes, but certain people were committed to playing suboptimally. i think that was the biggest advantage it gave the mafia, it was an obstacle for the town to play around.
giving everyone x votes instead of 1 wouldn't change anything btw. if everyone has 3 votes, i think it's even worse for the town because then you have to coordinate even more to get everyone even at 3 or 4 votes, etc.
you can call me out Urist, it won't hurt my feelings. I played like ass :)
Also it should go without saying but no hard feelings over here, I don't think that either of us were at peak performance this game hahah
no no, this was peak HK performance... *cries*
ok, maybe not peak, but like I was really paying attention and really trying to solve things. It just so happened I solved exactly backwards. And also Dunya is excellent at pocketing people.

My biggest fear with sharing mana wasn't that I could share wrong, it's that I could get someone I town read killed with it. So I think your considered change to Punish might be a good idea.

Epignosis wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 6:23 pm I approach things not just as a player but as a game designer.

So the first question given this morning's mana a mana clash (I'm so clever XD ) for me is this: "Would a mafioso use an ability to make himself the only other name on the poll?"

The answer to that is "Hell no unless you crazy."

The second question I ask is, "Would I as a game designer give mafia an ability to transform the poll from anybody can die to 'Mafia has a 50% chance of death?'"

The answer to that is "Hell no I ain't crazy."

The third question I ask is, "Would a mafia member whose faction has this in hand use this ability?"

See the answer to number one.

I'm gradually gaining the perspective that this is all going to be a cautionary tale of "Just because you can don't mean you should."

The reverse lynch mechanic was almost certainly going to work against civilians.

This lynch mechanic may very well work against civilians.

JPIC has essentially forced our hands into choosing between them, which means if we agree with the answers to the questions above, we have no choice but to accept JPIC's decision on the matter.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

On the other hand, silencing is a pro-Mafia mechanic in almost every scenario, and I'm not altogether sure I buy the "There's a secret benefit to it." I don't even make civilian silencers anymore.

The fact is we've been dealt two names to choose from, and one of them is someone whose skill set doesn't make much sense coming from a mafia member. The other one does.

And at the end of the day, if we lose, I get to blame JPIC. :meany:

Why are you asking me this?
Because I think you're town and regardless of whether or not you have a solid grasp on the thread I do not think you have an agenda here other than kill mafia.
But how does my answer help you?
because it gives me perspective that I don't currently have. You may have seen things I haven't or you may have thoughts I haven't.
Moving jack into town makes a certain amount of sense to me. Obvs I would say I'm not mafia here but I can see why you'd say that. I can see why you'd say LC as well.

I was going to say we can't coordinate that publicly if they have a blocker, but actually who cares? They're still probably gonna block the vigs to be safe (we were talking about repeat roles earlier and totally forgot about this, but what's the difference between hk and falcon anyway? If one of them is lying that's also really dire at this point).
I don't like this train of thought. Even if I get executed here, I don't think jpic would be my #1 choice of vig shot.

Not as the chops for the day. Both of you have been independently discussed but not as a pair to solve within.
Epi entered chat most suspicious of you and 112. I entered most suspicious of Urist/112
TSP talked about you early in chat as well.

So there was no way in hell Guillo/Epi were being chopped yesterday, yeah? Like I think we can all agree on that. So no way to earn vig shots for mafia in those two. They're never dying.
Having the marks today be you and jack again guarantees that at most they'll have you in contention for a mark chop. Worst case situation is the mark on you is real, you're town, and jpic is mafia and we lose.
Best case situation is the person we chop is mafia and the marker, yeah?
Would scumjpic know that Epi had no chance of being executed when he sent the mark? This was before Epi had claimed mason with Marmot.
You're focusing too much on what is currently happening this game instead of whether it makes sense from a design perspective. But let's be real, I don't think this mech discussion is very productive.

A question for you now. In the neighborhood, who was being discussed as the execution target? If jpic is mafia, I'd give a stern look toward the person who was being discussed as well as the people in the neighborhood.
you and JPIC are the two people we've been focusing on.
So unless there's a mole in the 'hood it's coincidental that it's the two of you being up for a dome.
I real marked Urist before any of you lot ended up in the hood together to discuss anybody. Unfortunately, I am not clairvoyant.
Same night, so IF you're a wolf and IF you're a wolf with TSP (b/c Epi isn't a wolf and I'm not a wolf) this could have been planned.

I get that. I was just saying that there should be one other town-read in there if he’d be comfortable giving one.

I don’t know. People don’t seem to be suspecting Urist when I ask for suspects. I thought someone implied there was a mechanical reason to view him as town.

TSP can generate 3 from his lands, and he was given the Maple Leaf which takes 1 colorless and turns it into two of any given color. Therefore, if TSP isn't lying, he could easily kick his ability last night to create the 3 person hood.
Thank you for effectively pointing out that he created the neighborhood last night if he isn't lying about creating the neighborhood last night. I hadn't thought of that.
thank you for ignoring my point lol
The point was that the 6 mana from Epi is a red herring, that dunya never needed 6 to kick her ability, and that the current hood is not a result of anything that she did two nights ago
You're saying that if he's not lying about his ability, it works in the way he says it works. I understand that. I'm not an idiot.
I'm saying it's possible he and dunya lied and that the neighborhood today is caused by another ability, or has another more expensive kicker that does what we saw the day before.
ok, obvs take this what however many grains of salt you want to, but dunya and I had talked about her kicker and what it could do in that hood. I knew from 4 IRL days ago that she could kick her ability to create a 3 person hood that would control the chop.
I also know that TSP, when he came into the game, barely had read his role PM let alone the game thread and the full chat between dunya and myself.
There is no reason for him to lie to me given that at the point he joined the game I knew as much or more about his slot than he did.

For what you're saying to be true he would have to have 3 abilities: 1 - create 2 person hood; 2 - inverse vote mechanic; 3 - create 3 person hood that controls the vote.
Nobody we've seen thus far has more than "base ability + kicker". I don't see how you can tie "inverse vote mechanic" and "3 person control hood" into one kicker.
Yeah that's true, TSP probably didn't have time to do anything other than skim your neighborhood. This is good to know.
I'll clarify that I'm not actually advocating for TSP to be executed any time soon. I mostly just wanted to get the theory out in the wild because I can imagine people clearing TSP for using what is at its core an anti-town ability that should never have been used if he's town.
I've mulled TSP wolf over in my head a few times in the last 48 or so hours sure. Wild theories are great to put out there and talk about b/c either the person engaging with the theory knows more than they should and slips while addressing it, or it's discussed and put to bed.
I think you're fine and GTH I want to chop JPIC today.
If I'm wrong and JPIC is town we go from 7-4 to 6-4 and the NK brings us to lylo. If there are no extra KP floating around we still have a shot.
If JPIC is wolf we're fucking good to go.

If we kill you and you're town AND the mark is real AND JPIC is wolf we lose the game.
But if you're a wolf again, we're good to go AND if the mark is real AND JPIC is town he gets a shot at someone, which better be in the POE.

That's where I'm at. I can see reasons to chop both of you. I can see reasons to town read both of you (this conversation is helping your case btw)

Re: Magic the Gathering Mafia - Day 4

the 6 mana from Epi to Dunya is a red herring. I didn't create the hood, and Epi didn't create it b/c I was in the hood with Dunya yesterday. Therefore it's only TSP who creates, and it takes 4 mana to create.
Functionally he can do this every night from now on. Obvs he can't choose me and Epi again b/c that would violate the "cannot target the same target sequentially" clause of the action.

I assumed from the first moment this clicked that he somehow blocked me and copied my power (for one night). The dunya/tsp connection to me makes a lot of sense when framed like that. It is possible I'm being too stubborn with my precise explanation (and I know it has holes - I've pointed these out myself, Urist did too), but it's what I think happened and it makes LC scum. If I'm wrong about his specific role, I still feel like there's something fucky there.

Nobody can vouch for me because I gave the first leaf to Jack (didn't get it) and the second to Mac (died). I will give a new one to Jack tonight though. I'm aware it's kind of an absurd position to be making my claim from, but it's all true. I've thought that LC likely stole my ability on one night (to get you a leaf) and the dunya stuff was just a lie.

I've also never given anyone any mana or received it. Making mana leaves takes up all the mana I produce. My kicker lets me make a Black Lotus (slightly stronger version of the same) but I don't think it's worth asking for mana / risking a PtF.

I don't know what this means.
I suspect that the ability which created the special execution mechanic on d3 is the same one that created the special execution mechanic today. It doesn't make any sense for them to be two separate abilities (what would happen if they were both used at the same time?)
Also, dunya was given a ton of mana for n2 and I don't think anyone gave her mana for n3, so how would Tony execute this special ability unless it was initially triggered n2 and this is just an after-effect?
What I'm getting at is that TSP is probably mafia. And that, unfortunately, I'm probably wrong on hk and that he's likely town after all.
This is what I was trying to get that earlier in the day and I completely agree.
I'm struggling to justify two people with the same action given how much thought and effort seems to have gone into the creation of this game. Copy Paste seems way lazier than what everything we've seen thus far would indicate Tutuu is.

Maybe there's a way to confirm both of you though..
Maybe you can send within player pool X and LC can send within player pool Y. I dunno, lemme think on that

Hello. I have done it. I have also been silenced. The purpose of the neighborhood is as follows: this ability gains its power from the existence of the confirmed town epi. I will plan on sheeping whatever Epi decides (barring him making a stupid decision or disappearing). However, I only have 10 posts to use in the thread and I have to use posts to vote so HK and Epi speak for me today.

Would also love to know why you silenced me. smh. [VOTE: urist] aubergine that's not nice.
Because there's a beneficial side to my action and I knew you'd be the least affected since you'd most likely be able to speak through a neighborhood today.
Also because I couldn't silence Guillotine on consecutive nights.
A few observations and questions here.

1. You targeted TSP with a silence because TSP would be able to speak through a neighborhood.
a. That somewhat implies you knew he would be alive today (not necessarily), but you wouldn't silence someone you expected to be dead.

2. The second sentence implies you wanted to silence Guillotine twice in a row. Why would you want that?
a. You said you chose TSP because you knew he wouldn't be as affected. Did this reasoning equally apply to Guillotine?
b. Why did you quiet Guillotine, someone I have trusted?
c. You pretended to not understand the mechanics behind quieting Guillotine, and from what I can tell, you didn't do anything with that as a civilian might in order to catch opportunistic mafia. No, indeed, you just said you wish you could target Guillotine again.
Urist wrote: Sun Mar 14, 2021 12:18 pm @Guillotine do you just die if you go over 10 posts then?
d. One could even accuse you of trying to bait Guillotine into wasting a post or more:

No context. But he never responded so I guess he does. :partyparrot:
3. Silencing people in any context is at its core a mafia-aligned ability. If I am a civilian with that role, I don't use it.
a. So why did you? What did you hope to accomplish putting a post restriction on Guillotine (and hoping to do it twice)? And what are you hoping to accomplish putting a posting restriction on TSP?
Isn't this where you say Boom Bye Scum?

I never said anything about stealing. I'm trying to understand how both you and Enrique are claiming to hand out maple leaf cards and that Enrique knew what that card does.
There are some options I can think of:
1. You're pack mates
2. One of you stole the others ability
3. You both have the same ability

As the OP states, there are no investigative abilities, so that rules out role cop (and I'm not even sure role cop would give all that information, I dunno).
It's possibly you're pack but I highly doubt it.
I haven't seen anything else that would indicate abilities can be stolen.

Therefore, no matter how weird the conclusion is, the conclusion is you two have the same ability to hand out maple leaf cards.

What I'm getting at is that TSP is probably mafia. And that, unfortunately, I'm probably wrong on hk and that he's likely town after all.
This neighborhood and it's yeet controlling ability is from TSP. I knew this was possible in the Dunya neighborhood. She asked me not to out that ability. TSP has given me his approval to this post

Re: Magic the Gathering Mafia - Day 4

@Long Con @Enrique both of you are claiming to hand out Maple Leaf cards, yes? I'm not mistaken when I say that?

If so, who gave the card to Dunya and who gave the card to me?

Also, someone gave me mana last night. 1 colorless and two of the same color.

As soon as we yeet Urist?

Urist wrote: Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:29 pm I silenced TSP. He can still make 10 posts today, not sure why he's not using them.
Did he claim to have created the special yeet mechanic today or not? If he didn't cause this mechanic, who did he neighborize last night?
you'll have to ask him

I listed 6 players and we know there are only 4 mafia. So at least 2 of them should be town.
you're reading for content but the context is also important to note.
what does this mean?
That of all the people you list Jack is most confident in Enrique?
Also, why isn't Urist in your POE of 6?
I get that. I was just saying that there should be one other town-read in there if he’d be comfortable giving one.

I don’t know. People don’t seem to be suspecting Urist when I ask for suspects. I thought someone implied there was a mechanical reason to view him as town.

I am just pooling together what seems to be the consensus opinion among the responses I’ve gotten. I haven’f actually read stuff.
hollowkatt wrote: Wed Mar 17, 2021 3:39 pm I think Urist/112 are tied together with the way Urist handled Bolas and the way he's town reading the slot even without being able to commit to a townread on 112 themselves. Yeah, I get not having read through all the posts yet, that's fair
If we yeet Urist, and he’s mafia, I get a vig shot. I am currently aiming it at 112 right now.

Get ready, folks
Spoiler: show
that's a bad shot
real quick 112, what's your POE/Solve? Where do you think the wolves are hiding?
