Yeah, mafia could have benefited from an extra kill for sure. The 20-player version of the game had the weakest town power roles to account for the numbers advantage.

Still, I think both teams had a chance to win at the very end, which is usually my goal as a host.

Day 9 Result

In stunning news, local supermarket owner Simon Skinner was arrested today on suspicion of murder. According to new police sergeant Nicholas Angle, Mr. Skinner is responsible for the string of accidental deaths inflicted upon Sandford of late. This news has shocked the quiet, peaceful little village, as no crime had been reported in town for over 25 years. Mr. Skinner had always been seen as a benefactor for the greater good of the village.

The Living Statue, whose unwanted commotion wreaked havoc on the quiet village of Sandford, has at last been dealt with. Residents can rest easy knowing that this menace will no longer disturb them as they go about their blissful lives.

Local resident Arthur Webley was out trimming hedgerows this evening when a tree fell and crushed him to death. Mr. Webley will be fondly remembered by all who ever spoke to him around the village. Sandford mourns yet another tragic accident befallen one of our fine citizens.

Leslie Tiller, whose horticultural expertise helped put Sandford on the map, tragically died last evening while closing up her shop. Miss Tiller was doing some last-minute tending to her plants when she tripped and fell on her own shears. Such an awful accident for one of Sandford's best and brightest. She will be missed, God rest her.

Day 7 Result

Chief Inspector Frank Butterman died peacefully this evening of strangulation. Inspector Butterman cared deeply for the village of Sandford, and it was his devotion that helped the peaceful town win England's Village of the Year contest seven years in a row. Inspector Butterman worked tirelessly for the greater good of the village, and his stewardship will be dearly missed by all.

Day 6 Result

Eve Draper, the leading lady in Sandford's local production of Romeo & Juliet, was killed in a car accident on the outskirts of the village early this morning. It appears Miss Draper lost control of her vehicle, left the road, and was decaffeinated by a low-hanging tree branch. The sound of her laughter will be dearly missed around town.

Schiavetto has been eliminated. They were Eve Draper, Town 1-shot Strong-Will Empowerer.

Answering a couple questions I have received in private:

Every role in the game is a character from Hot Fuzz. The mafia team’s fake claims were selected at random from a list of Hot Fuzz characters before any roles were assigned to characters. Speculation about character claims could be considered angleshooting, which is heavily discouraged and could result in punishment. For the greater good.

Ties are decided via a coin flip.

Night 5

Police Constable Danny Butterman, son of Frank Butterman, was found dead this morning. In a tragic accident, PC Butterman is believed to have fallen down the stairs of his home, suffering multiple stab wounds along the way. His work with the Sandford Police Force will be dearly missed.

Day 5 Result

Police Sergeant Tony Fisher lived a peaceful life filled with perfect Sundays from week to week. Tragically, he met a fatal accident this evening. While out for a stroll following his day at the police station, Sgt. Fisher was struck by an unidentified automobile, killing him instantly. He embodied the Sandford Police Department better than anyone, and his service will be dearly missed.

Late last night, a large explosion shook Sandford village, as the home of George Merchant was blown to bits. A gas leak stemming from Mr. Merchant's kitchen, he had been cooking up some midnight beans, is believed to have been the culprit. While the home was not in keeping with the village's rustic aesthetic, Mr. Merchant will be dearly missed.

Michael Armstrong, affectionately known as Lurch by his mum and sister, was found bludgeoned to death this afternoon. It is believed that he fell and struck his head on a potted Japanese peace lily and died from the resulting wounds.

Detective Andy Wainwright of the Sandford PD was found accidentally hanged this morning. It is believed that Det. Wainwright, dear friend of the recently-departed Andrew Cartwright, god rest him, was attempting to change a lightbulb in his home. But the detective's stool became loose from under him, causing him to slip, just as his tie was caught on a ceiling beam. Yet another tragic accident in the peaceful village of Sandford.

RondoDimBuckle has been killed. He was Detective Andy Wainwright, Vanilla Town.

Day 3 Result

Sandford bids farewell to one of its own today. Mr. P. I. Staker was found today, mauled to death by his beloved swan. It is believed the swan attacked Mr. Staker in an unprovoked fit of avian rage, puncturing him several times with its beak. Citizens should be on the lookout for the suspect, which is described as being about two-foot tall with a long, slender neck and an orange and black bill.

Detective Andy Cartwright was struck by a vehicle while walking home from the pub last night. The collision decapitated the detective, who also suffered several stab wounds as a result of the accident. He will be terribly missed around Sandford, God rest him.

Day 2 Result

Sandford was beset by yet another tragedy this evening, as Tom Weaver, the head of the Neighborhood Watch Alliance, was found dead at his command post. Mr. Weaver had apparently suffered a heart attack whilst surveying the village, and subsequently suffered an unrelated gunshot wound to the chest.

Sabiplz has been eliminated. They were Tom Weaver, Mafia 3-shot motion detector.

More troubling news for the Sandford Police Department. An apparently grief-stricken police woman Doris Thatcher was discovered dead in her home this morning. Ms. Thatcher, in a fit of despair, bound her hands and feet and suffocated herself in an apparent suicide. Her warm presence will be missed around the village.

Day 1 Result

Tragedy struck today at the Sandford police station. Sgt. Turner and his brother were both found dead in the storage room. Evidently both brothers had simultaneously slipped and bashed their heads repeatedly on a filing cabinet. Their commitment to making this village great will not be forgotten.

Several years ago, my friends and I were on a road trip from the U.S. east coast to the southwest. While driving through the miserable state of Iowa, at 8 AM on a weekday on a major interstate highway, my friend became very bored in the backseat. The reason being, of course, that we were in Iowa. So he decided to stick his GoPro out the window and film the drive to give himself a fleeting moment of entertainment.

Several minutes later, a police SUV came up behind us with its siren on. We pulled over to move out of its way and let it pass us. But it did not pass us. Instead, it pulled over behind us. Two police officers equipped with rifles and body armor stepped out. They approached our easily identifiable out-of-state car, guns drawn, and looked in at us. My friend still had his GoPro in his hand. They saw it, and immediately acknowledged that it was just a camera. You see, evidently, one concerned Iowa citizen had seen somebody riding in the backseat of a car with Massachusetts license plates, firing a hand gun out the window as they drove down the interstate in broad daylight. As is traditional pastime in all New England states.

The officers seemed flustered and a bit embarrassed. One of them said that if we were back home, the cops would have had us on the ground. But I never thought that was true. Nobody in Massachusetts would ever see a GoPro being held outside a car window on the highway and make the immediate assumption that it was a handgun.

While the officers acknowledged the mistake, they were still required to search our car while we waited outside. But we were on the first leg of a 3-week cross country road trip, so the car was packed full of camping and hiking gear. They opened the trunk, took a brief look at its contents, and decided it was not worth their time. They apologized and let us go, and the trip ended up being amazing.

I still hold a grudge against Iowa to this day. It's a dreadful place, to be avoided at all costs.

Answering a couple questions I received pre-game:

1) There is no minimum post count.

2) The punishment for exceeding the post cap once is as follows:
- Loss of the ability to vote the ensuing Day
- Loss of night action the ensuing Night
- Permanent reduction of your daily post limit to 70 posts per phase

The punishment for exceeding the limit a second time is a modkill, as stated in the first post.

Rules & Mechanics
~Each day phase, all players have a post cap of 80. You may not exceed 80 posts on any day phase. Violation of this rule one time will result in in-game punishment. A second violation will result in a modkill.
~Days will last 48 hours. Nights will last 24 hours. The game thread will be locked at night and posting at night will be forbidden. I will do my best to maintain a firm deadline of 7 PM EST for all phases. Night actions must be submitted prior to a half hour before the end of the night phase.
~All votes must be cast in the poll the be official. Players are also encouraged to call their votes in the thread using [VOTE: vote tags] aubergine.
~Players are free to claim any roles or information they want.
~All community guidelines for behavior and conduct are in effect for this game. Please be kind to one another and remember that we are all playing a game for fun on the internet.
~Any questions about game mechanics, roles, the setup, etc. must be sent to me in private. I will not address any questions asked publicly.
~If at any point you feel that emotions have are negatively impact the game, please contact one of the mods on duty for this game. For this game, your MoDs are @dunya, @Justplayingitcool, and @Spacedaisy. For the greater good.

Setup
~16 Town vs. 4 Mafia
~Both teams have a mix of power roles and vanilla roles.
~This setup is mostly closed. Players will not receive information about the number of power roles on either faction, or about the existence of most power roles. However, I will say that there are no secret non-standard abilities or powers in this game. Role powers are relatively limited.
~All members of the mafia team have been given fake character claims.

The only roles which will be publicly revealed are the following two:

Sergeant Nicholas Angel - Town. Masons w/ PC Butterman. 2-shot tracker. Can grant another player 1-shot track upon death.
Police Constable Danny Butterman - Town. Masons w/ Sgt. Angel. Every night, acts as a bodyguard for Sgt. Angel. Will die in Angel's place if he is targeted for a nightkill unless overridden by other powers.
