Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (FINAL PRESENTATIONS!)
Now that the dust is settled on this game, let’s get a head start on the new crop of games for next year’s Sockys.
We’ve got a full slate of games in sign-ups right now. A Full Game, two Side Missions, a Heist, and a Burglary. One of those has gotta be filled by the end of the week.

Mafia is always a team effort.
And if the civilians lose, I'm the guy who tried to use his extra vote to hammer a fellow civ instead of a now-confirmed mafia at MYLO. I'm the biggest dunce in the room by far. for the record

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 7)
I'm going to pull out some posts from the two recent games I've (all three of us?) played with sabie (she was civilian in both) that I feel give emphasis to my suspicion of her in this game:
Sharing reads, A World Asunder:
Vanilla, sharing reads:
There's a bit of game summary in all of these posts, but they're also full of stances, reads, or thoughtful questions about players and their behavior. Sabie's thoughts are coming out effortlessly and naturally.
Compare this with some of her posts from this game:
I think the above posts cemented my vote, but just to be extra sure, here's sabie responding to suspicion:
A World Asunder:
She was killed Night 1 in Vanilla Mafia and never faced any suspicion. But looking at her World Asunder responses to suspicion, she takes them all in stride, responds to her accusers in conversation, addresses their points, and asks her own follow-up questions on occasion. Compare that to here:
I can't really read sabie as town, and I can't read speedchuck as scum. I have no reason not to believe nutella's claim, especially given that it's the only available explanation as to why I didn't botch the game on Day 5. My Sabie vote is pretty much locked in at this point. Sorry if I'm wrong, sabie. But I can't really see it any other way right now.

Compare this with some of her posts from this game:
This post is almost entirely summary. The only stance she takes is "I can see how this could be bad", which is not definitive anyway.sabie12 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 7:02 pm Oh this is so hard when there really isnt much to go off of yet. I completed my award presentation at least. And as someone who hasnt posted much it's mostly just due to being at work and when I had looked before there wasnt a whole of conversations going. I saw people discussing the validity of what type of socks people wear. I wear nerdy socks if that means anything
I'm never a fan of votes with no explanation even a small one. Nova is actually kind of participating this game but has a track record for barely doing anything and then either getting replaced or killed off and he ended up being a civ. LC was quick to accuse cbob due to his posting memes but I was accusing reways because of that last game and was wrong. Though I died before it mattered anyway.
Epi and speed voting Enrique for posting twice and then not showing up again. I dont know I mean I do understand this logic on the sense that he didnt say anything other than saying what is going on and posting a video I didn't watch. It's like a confusion over what is happening and then adding to confusion by posting something random and then disappearing. I can see how this could be bad.
Epi and nutella were baddie teammates last game and this game she's accusing him wonder if they are in fact on differing teams or not?
This post has lots of stances, but what's missing is the questions. There's not a single question mark after her initial jab at G-man. This lack of questioning is contrasted against her final line: "I'm really at a loss this game." In her previous civilian efforts, questions have poured out of sabie as a natural byproduct of her participation in the game. A look at this post, and her ISO in general, reveals almost no investigative questions. Most of the question marks I see in her posts are attached to playful jabs at folks. Sabie's a pleasant person, but I'm pretty sure she has an anti-town role card in this game.sabie12 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 7:16 pmAnd your reasoning is? The one thing that got me with svs was her saying bye epi and mac rather than RIP. Like who cares we just lost 2 more civs. That nonchalance over who cares we lost civs thing was also why I was suspecting gman.
I dont know on kyle and ddl. Nutella I could see as being bad. Very over zealous about the Enrique thing. She is very defensive and accusing epi who ended up being good.
Idk about spirit he's posted literally twice and once only to say epi was bad when he wasnt. It would suck if we lynch him and hes not bad but theres no way to know really because he has said nothing and never voted. If hes not going to be replaced then I guess I see why people want to get rid of him.
I don't like lunas comment on Enrique being good making her look good. And shes kinda following whatever nutella says. Idk if that's a teammate thing or an unsure what to do thing.
Gman says he is vanilla on the chart but we dont actuall have that confirmed. If he were bad it would be a great way to make civs look bad by saying he was good when he wasn't.
I'm really at a loss this game. Don't feel like I have any idea what to do. Those are some random thoughts. Idk
I think the above posts cemented my vote, but just to be extra sure, here's sabie responding to suspicion:

I feel like I'm floating on an island by myself with no idea what to do. Then even if someone actually reads what I say to agree with me it changes in an instant. I don't understand the case against me and I have a hard time reading and comprehending the super long posts. I'll have to read Luna and SVS again. Luna seemed more sketchy to me.
sabie12 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 10:50 pm Glad we got another one! And nah my thing was I thought Lunas behavior was more sketchy than svs but I was willing to vote svs. I still don't see a reason those two couldn't have been teammates. I still don't see why people suspect me other than the mafia team or potentially one member left needs someone for the civs to mislynch. Since I've been blah this game I'm an easy target for that.
In this game she's repeatedly said that she doesn't understand the case against her and has not directly addressed any of the points which have been made against her. It's a stark contrast to the civilian sabie from A World Asunder who was eager to respond directly to any criticisms people threw her way.sabie12 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 9:26 pm RIP Luna sorry I thought you were sketchy. Going with sloonei since he's the one making the biggest case against me and I know I'm not bad. I don't even know what the case against me is. That I was bad at finding the baddies this game? I wasn't the only one. I'm pretty sure who ever the remaining baddie is killed off Luna to make me look bad since I was suspecting her. I pretty much figured that was going to be their move. I mean if I was the remaining baddie why would I openly kill off the person I was suspicious of? Wouldn't you kill someone else off and then lead a lynch on the person you've been suspecting? Or maybe I'm wrong. Either way good job at making me look bad baddies. I was super hoping to finally have a civ win for once.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 4)
I've come back to this post a few times. He suggests DDL as the primary lynch candidate on Day 4 when I asked a question to no one in particular. He doesn't need to put his teammate in the line of fire right here, but if he's bad maybe that's the point.speedchuck wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 11:29 pmI think it was... DDL? I'm down, I think. Will have to go over it.
Also ayyyy I'm a nominee! Though it's "Best Mafioso," not "got tons of mafia wins that year by virtue of having good teammates." Can't wait to see the reveal, cbob!
town read on SVS
Skeptical of the DDL bandwagon (on Day 4, not Day 5). I don't blame him, but it's something worth looking at. This seems more like a complaint about the activity level in the thread rather than the specific lynch target. If he's intent on saving DDL, he should be pushing another case. I don't see him doing that anywhere. He does eventually vote for reywas, though.
On Day 5 he does a series of ISOs. This was when I started to read him as town and he hasn't lost that spot since. The thread was pretty inactive for a while, and speedchuck breathed some life into it with some very thorough ISO work, looking at me, then nutella, then DDL. His vote ended up on DDL. Hooray. I think all of these ISOs look like they're coming from an honest and open mind intent on solving the game. Big point in his favor. Another big point for voting DDL during MYLO. He had enough fuel to mislynch just about anybody on this day and win the game if he's scum. That didn't happen.
My only slight concern remains his behavior today. But ultimately the only case I can make is that he's done a bunch of things purely for WIFOM purposes. There's no substantial case I can make against speedchuck. In situations like this my philosophy is that if he's bad, he deserves to win.
I'll take another look at sabie as well. I believe nutella's indie claim.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 3)
Here's a thing:
Nutella's got some heat on her at this time. speedchuck decides to investigate independently and he comes out with more positive things to say than negative. In a lazy thread like this one, he could have easily lumped suspicion on her here.
I'm trying to approach speedchuck from a totally neutral perspective right now. This is a point in his favor.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 7)
I've argued that nutella's switch off of SVS is a good look. She had no reason to do that if she's bad, and the likelihood that anybody else was going to be lynched yesterday was slim at best. The only reason scum nutella does that is so that people can make the argument that I'm making right now, but that's superfluous. Once again, there's no reason for her to need to do that. She was sitting cozy all day long.sabie12 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 2:42 pm I don't know who killed Luna or why they did. I initially was like oh people qill think it was me because I suspected her but then thinking more on it I was like wait that would be dumb and wouldnt make sense. I am probably more suspicious of nutella than speed because of the svs lynch. I guess sloonei you just play how you always do. Talking a lot and try to get other people talking. I mean I've gathered that's just your play style. As the day initiated and I was the suspect I thought maybe sloonei is setting me up. Also, wasn't saying anyone was dissing my playstyle more so explaining that due to not having a computer, my posts aren't always as long and detailed.

I certainly don't intend to criticize the quality of your play. I've played only a few games with you recently, but I very much enjoy and appreciate your presence in these games ( ). But right here and right now, I simply think you're not aligned with the civilians. I've shared my reasons for feeling this way. My goal at the moment is to work with you to try to understand your perspective in this game so that, if I am wrong, I can wrap my head around that fact and figure out the correct answer to the question of who to lynch. I have questions for you, and I'm not asking them to bury you or to make you feel insignificant; I am asking them because I want to hear your answers. Or see them, or whatever.sabie12 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 1:35 pm Sorry that I really am not as good at putting together arguments and copy pasting a bunch of old posts and writing a bunch of tldr posts on reads of every player. All I can tell you guys is that it's not me and I've literally (Epignosis' favorite word) never lied about anything this game. If no one believes me then no one believes me. Me arguing the same thing over and over does nothing for me. Just like in world asunder where people thought I was bad because of a statement being interpreted wrong. I was a civ then and am now.
You've suggested that I killed Luna to make you look bad. In what way would me killing luna make you look bad?
If we assume that I am town and you are town, then one of speedchuck or nutella must be bad. Which one is it and why?
What would you say is the best reason to town read each of the three of us?
I sincerely hope to hear your answers to these questions. If you're a civilian, then the only chance we have of turning this thing around is if we work together to figure out where we should go.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 7)
I don't think it is true that I have been "hardcore pushing" against you. I ISO'd everybody in the game and made a deliberate effort to give everybody equal attention. The end result was a suspicion of you.sabie12 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 1:02 pm Idk I didnt really have a major case on sloonei just that i know I'm civ and hes hardcore pushing a lynch against me so I had put my vote there. The remaining scum has to find someone to push a lynch against that isnt them. Sloonei has been working on building a case against me and the person I was suspecting ends up getting killed off. I realize that's not great reasoning necessarily but that was my thought process.Nutellas issue is that she was last minute trying to go against the svs lynch when no one else was so I'd also be willing to vote her.
Luna was killed off and I dont see what I ever would have had to gain from that if it were me that did it. Why would I ever do that? It would be a really stupid decision on my part and I dont know why people think I would have done that. If I were bad why wouldn't I have killed off someone who was suspecting me like sloonei rather than someone I was suspicious of? Idk it just seems silly to me. Sucks that no one ever listens to me so we're gonna lose. My nonchalance this game has been more due to personal life stress. Also as I said if I had had teammates I could have been way more sure about what I was doing. I wouldn't have been so lost and confused. I mean everyone will see I wasn't lying in the end so I guess that's all I can take solace in.
You've repeatedly said that it would make no sense for you to kill off luna, but in saying that you are providing a clear motivation why a baddie sabie would kill luna. Also, I don't see much reason for any of the rest of us to kill luna either. I think she was a more viable lynch option than any of us coming into today (generally speaking. I was close to being comfortable town reading her, but there had been more consistent suspicion against her than any of myself, nutella, or speedchuck). I am having trouble grasping the theory that I killed luna to somehow frame you. How does that frame you if another part of your argument is that killing luna is not something you would do?

I don’t think they felt the need to do anything extraordinary. Them we caught one, then another, and now there’s one exposed baddie left.
No stone left unturned, I guess would be my motto going into today. This comeback has been legendary and dropping the ball now without working through all our options would be awful.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 7)
speedchuck my nutella suspicion consists of mostly tinfoil. For her to be bad, she and DDL need to have played a long term hard distancing strategy, which I’m not sure woule have happened in this particular game. If she’s bad, the only reason she would have backed off of SVS yesterday would be for the sake of WIFOM. She did have a few small moments with SVS that gave me pause. I’ll dig them up when I’m on my laptop.
My gut and everything else tells me to go with sabie. I think this game was dead for the first 4 days and scum were just coasting by as we all lynched each other helplessly. I don’t think they felt the need to do anything extraordinary. Them we caught one, then another, and now there’s one exposed baddie left.
Or I’m wring and you or nutella has done something fancy while we were all asleep.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 7)
I think it’s worth talking about.
My answer was going to be “yes”, and my reasoning was going to be basically what she just laid out in her post above. If sabie is bad, she sees the writing on the wall. She needs to shake it up. An easy way to do that would be to kill off the person she’s been pushing suspicion against and see if she can shift some blame onto somebody else.
That’s exactly what she’s going for, in her own words.

Bad sabie would kill luna so she could make a post like this as a hail mary.sabie12 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 9:26 pm RIP Luna sorry I thought you were sketchy.
I’ve “made a case against you” because I’ve spent a lot of time ISOing everybody. You wre the person i came out if that exercise most suspicious of.

sabie votes for me, which prompts a mildly interesting thought: her target the last few days has been luna. Now luna's been nightkilled. Do we think sabie would do that?

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (NIGHT 6)
I should also add that I’m not thrilled by sabie’s response to the suspicion against her these last few days. She has repeatedly brushed it all off as “weak” without really addressing the actual points against her. Most recently, she has rejected my point about her SVS interactions as weak because she only had the one small interaction with her. the reason I find her suspicious is not the interaction itself, but the fact that it’s the only time they really acknowledged each other at all in the game. Just like SVS and DDL never really talked to each other, sabie and SVS were noticeably light on one another. I sense a bit of resignation in sabie’s self-defense.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (NIGHT 6)
Sabie was only reluctantly on board with the SVS lynch after spending a big part of the day trying to lynch you (a campaign which she still has not dropped), and when it was inevitable that she would be lynched. Nutella jumped off the ship for the exact same reason I abandoned the DDL vote a day earlier, at a time when there was absolutely no reason for scum to rock the boat unless they were going for mega WIFOM points. I don’t think these nutella waffles are a bad thing.

Lunalee I never criticized your vote for DDL specifically. As I explained at the time, I didn’t like the way votes had piled onto DDL with no resistance. I switched to you because you were next on my list at the time, not because I had any particular thoughts on your vote.
I didn’t really read the rest of your post just yet, but I wanted to make this clarification.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (NIGHT 6)
I did a quick scan of SVS's interactions with all of you guys. She spent a lot of energy early on pushing the idea of Enrique and Luna being connected somehow and, as I highlighted in my earlier analysis of Luna's posts, the two of them seemed to be at odds over a few things in the early stages of the game. I sense real tension coming from SVS in these interactions, and I don't think it indicates a partnership. I'm open to other interpretations, but I think Luna looks good in relation to SVS.
I was surprised by how little SVS interacted with nutella, given that they've both been fairly consistent participants in the game (at least, prior to the most recent phase when SVS kinda dropped off). nutella is mentioned as a secondary figure in a few of SVS's conversations in earlier stages, and when she (SVS) does start to talk directly about nutella, she waffles a bit (here and here). I could see it as an effort to try to initiate suspicion against a vocal civilian using a light touch, or as baddie partners trying put some distance between themselves without implicating one another. I read nutella as town overall, but she's fooled me very recently so I'm not totally comfortable committing to that read.
She barely interacts with sabie at all. The one episode they have together is this one, which I highlighted earlier. I can read it as partners who realized they hadn't said a word to each other and felt pressure to concoct some phony issue to put some distance between themselves. Sabie remains my top suspect.
There is similarly not much with speedchuck (like, nothing at all), but he was instrumental in each of the previous two lynches and I'm probably more comfortable sticking a town read on him than anyone at this point.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (NIGHT 6)
I don’t think it’s possible that we have more than 1 scum left. Maybe 1 scum and 1 indie, but I’m treating it as if it’s just a lone baddie.
And tomorrow should be 3 on 1, I think, which means we could no lynch to force an extra day. I don’t know if that would be totally necessary, but it’s an option.

I still don't see why people suspect me other than the mafia team or potentially one member left needs someone for the civs to mislynch. Since I've been blah this game I'm an easy target for that.
Are you saying that everybody who suspects you is mafia trying to frame you?

This was a carbon copy of the DDL lynch.nutella wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 10:17 pmI had some growing skepticism of the svs wagon because nobody was arguing against it. Felt too easy. And luna kept skeeving me out, so she was my alternative. It ended up being pretty much just symbolic though since I knew nobody was realistically moving off the svs vote, and that worked out in the end. But nobody is cleared for complacence with that lynch.

Re: 2018 Socky Awards Mafia (DAY 3)
Sabie & SVS
I'm not a big fan of the NO U on luna here, most of all. If Sabie is bad, luna's her best bet for a mislynch, either today or tomorrow.
Luna
Sabie
I might look at nutella and speedchuck if I feel like it.
G-man goes 2/3 calling out the scum team. Sabie shrugs at DDL and kyle, but gives a reason to suspect SVS. She responds to each of the two confirmed scum in this trio different, which could be significant, or it could mean nothing. I tend to think that baddies try not to call specific attention to their partners, so by keeping them separate here Sabie is playing it safe. She also frames the SVS suspicion pretty light ("The one thing...") as if it's not to be taken too seriously. The players she calls the most attention to here are luna and G-man.sabie12 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 7:16 pmAnd your reasoning is?
Idk
It's not impossible for SVS to fake offense. This could be teammate distancing. It wasn't a prolonged issue like the back-and-forth between luna and SVS I highlighted in my other post. I can see this particular interaction as town vs. scum, but I do not need to see it that way and I feel there's more evidence against sabie than for her overall at this point.sabie12 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 7:38 pmNo not at all I was like saying that was the only thing I could possibly get from you which isn't much of anything. I am not accusing you more like just curious on the word choice.
The continuation. It doesn't really look like either of them are trying to read each other here, though I do want to note for the record that you've got nothing to be self-conscious about, sabie! I know some people who stopped making any reaction post at all becasue they got into issues just like this, and I was gonna say, if you think I am bad, find a real reason to vote for me ha ha. I know semantics arguments have become in again, but I always found them overrated.
Linki, no you did not personally upset me, Sweetie. It's all game face
Sabie was the main voice arguing for Luna over SVS today. This is the post where she finally hops on the SVS wagon, and there's a bit of resignation in her language (... if that's the only option), but I could be reading too much into that.sabie12 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 8:53 pm I can see svs being bad and I could see her and Luna being teammates. Luna still trying to make me look bad to take suspicion off of herself. I've explained why I thought speed was bad and then I didnt get an opportunity to come back and change votes.
