The best reason to town read Dizzy is that he is absolutely nothing like he was quite recently when he and falcon ran over Fleabag as mafia.

That’s not worth a ton when the product in the thread is still content-limited. It could be worth “more than nothing” though. He isn’t putting on a show.

Re: Philosophy Mafia 2: Electric Boogaloo

Okay then.

Regarding the MR post SPF highlighted: shrug. I don’t struggle to see the latter paragraph as a token qualifier to encourage an active-listening dialogue. “That said, you could be right blah blah” is kind of a staple of my own play even if sometimes it’s perhaps redundant or otherwise not necessary. It’s a courtesy at least when I do it. MR can expand on his own.

The mechanical dynamics of the post may be questionable with a certain degree of nitpick. But you could be right.

One quick note:

I don’t think “optimality” is necessarily a sound notion to pursue or expect in #TonyLightRoleMadness. I’m also not sure I’d call what Mac has claimed to do “suboptimal”. There’s a good chance I check falcon and don’t even wait if I am in that position. I trust myself to be “cleared” when it counts, and I don’t struggle to believe Mac might have a similar perspective.

Overall I don’t know whether this stuff changes my view of Mac, but the role usage as I understand it doesn’t really bother me additionally.

Why do you think he's town?
If he wasn't, he wouldn't have checked me & got me into our chat
As I begin to absorb today’s episode of Nonsense Mechanics, this seems to be the core matter. If Mac is town, he green checked falcon. So falcon can only be mafia in a world where Mac also is (still wouldn’t have to be), barring goofy shit that would seem to violate host promises.

So I land here. Falcon’s perspective of Mac is a valuable one, because he has unique access to Mac in this game. Falcon: can you please expand on what you say in this post here (that is, why wouldn’t mafia Mac do that), and also just give your general impressions of what he’s done in the chat?

I do have one question for you: Is there a reason why it took you this long in the game to vote for someone? Wilgy and Sloonei are the only ones to have held out for longer and the latter didn't even show
Yes. Perhaps my most important discovery over the last two-three years of Mafia is that an environment of comfort is usually better for town than an environment of pressure. Often in the early game if I feel mu vote serves no purpose higher than just pressure, I don’t place it. I feel that gives people I have suspicions of maximum space to change my mind and believe that I really am listening.

Eventually one must vote though. This felt like the time.

fwiw i thought that marmot's initial reasoning to scumread you was among some of the towniest stuff that he's posted, because he pinpointed a specific observation about you that i hadnt found a way to put into words yet, which indicates to me that marmot was putting genuine thought into his read on you. i thought the way that he treated you from there came off as a bit binary/maybe a bit too focused on keeping you in his POE, though
Thanks. If there’s one thing I can say about Marmot, it’s that he hasn’t become preoccupied by singular pursuits including “Jay is off”. To make a read known while still operating within a broad solving umbrella is generally better than the alternative. Gun to my head Marmot is fine.

why do you feel this game doesn't need leadership?
The people playing in it. There are three elements to this player list that I think lend themselves nicely to a game where I don't have to take on that banner in every post:

- Familiarity -- a bunch of people here know each other well and can provide great insights on each other without needing to be prodded and poked
- Skill -- the players in this game are very good at Mafia and need less "guidance". I feel like a bit of a doofus saying so, but in some games I do feel like I need to provide guidance like a champs qualifier.
- Vibes -- these are good folks establishing and maintaining a positive environment and would likely be doing so if I wasn't playing

The situation might change at some point. I am ever watchful of a game's climate. But for the time being I really like where we are at as a game thread.

Re: Philosophy Mafia 2: Electric Boogaloo

I'm a bit torn on the rodent from the PNW. Holistically, I think his posts look fine -- his hunt seems to be organized in a way that recalls some of his other recent town efforts reasonably well. Conversely I sensed some opportunism in his treatment of me (e.g. suggesting I changed my approach somehow after pressure). I grant there's personal bias in that. It'd help to get someone else's perspective about Marmot's view of me.
