Re: Mumblecore

Awww, I see, that is quite unfortunate. I don't know if you have IFC with whatever cable package you have, but a lot of these films are broadcast on there.

If it sounds even remotely interesting to you (character and dialogue-driven stories), a good starter piece is The Puffy Chair. If you like movies with lots of talking (Before Sunrise, My Dinner With Andre), this might be a good option for you.
I've not seen those either. I'd give it a chance if I was in a position to (without spending money). Some of my favorite movies have very little dialogue at all though, like Angel's Egg.
I'm not sure what your library situation is, but I get almost all my DVD rentals from there (for free)

You might dig the work of John Cassavetes. Most of those films were from the '70s. Starring director himself, Peter Falk, Ben Gazzara, and Cassavetes' real life wife Gena Rowlands. His most famous works are: Killing of a Chinese Bookie, Woman Under the Influence, Faces, Opening Night, Husbands, Minnie and Muskowitz, etc.

Mumblecore

What do we think of it?

I love Cassavetes and also Slackavetes (Richard Linklater), so I dig both Duplass Bros and Swanberg camps. I think my favorite Mumblecore film is Hannah Takes the Stairs, but I feel like this changes all the time. I really love Puffy Chair and Quiet City.

It's weird to see Mark Duplass on prime-time TV, but I love it. Same for Greta Gerwig - so great she is a Woody Allen muse.
