She would want it as town, and make a pretty noticeable effort to form a base that townreads her and will vote for her. The person who gets it doesn't particularly matter (today. a civ is likely to get shot regardless of whether town or mafia hold the gun), outside of being someone who can be trusted to use thread consensus on a handful of names and choose from that sub-group.

I want your 3-5 to answer whether I'd trust you with the gun, because I want thread consensus on 3-5 people and you're around and building that is more important then who specifically gets it. I trust you, regardless of alignment, to go choose from the consensus, so I'd be fine with you having the gun. I think Duskfall getting the gun is absurd, because I think he's made it pretty blatantly obvious he can't be trusted to listen to the thread at large, only people who fit inside his box. He wants to get the gun and also surround himself with yes-men in how he carries out using it. And while I can see him as town, that's also a great way, if he gets the gun, for him to wind up shooting me (or some other town he goes off and chooses) and then also being mis-shot for carrying out the mis-shot down the line, when the group runs out of leads and inevitably turns on him.

No. I'm suggesting that in general the town should be giving the gun to the most townread person. Using their teamkill on the most townread person at about half the time is one of the more obvious and direct strategies I can see the mafia using for how to determine their kills.

You're obviously right the mafia can't block the kill. N1 the player who shoots will have been selected D1, and the mafia will poison someone which takes effect D2. Both the N1 shooter and poisonee can't get the gun, because you can't shoot twice in a row (for the shooter) and they'd be dead (the poisonee). And so on.

Not being a good look isn't the same as assuming they're mafia. But if the shooter gets 4 choices to shoot from the thread, and shoots a civ, and then later one (or two) of those 4 turns out to be mafia, that would make re-examining the shooter necessary.

Civ deaths are always an inevitably, but making no effort to mine from those deaths is just wasteful.

I hope my last post clears this up a little but I am sorry if I've misrepresented you -- I was posting very late last night and was very much not eloquent and having trouble putting my thoughts into words so I think I mis-articulated some things, particularly the idea that you were trying to "impose" anything on anyone. I didn't mean it that way at all, just a looser idea that you were trying to apply your way of thinking to someone else's content in a way that didn't mesh with their original intentions. I'm not trying to say that your approach is wrong, just that it was misapplied to Mac's approach and I originally thought that you were nefariously trying to make him look bad out of nothing, but I can see that you may have legitimately had that interpretation. I'd want a minimum of three choices that the person who gets the gun is allowed to choose from, with the understanding if they stray outside that they got shot next. I think it's better then deciding on a specific player because that keeps mafia from being able to control the conversation easily.

And at 13 players, 10/3 split... Assuming the gun always gets used (no ties, but in most cases that should be easy enough to avoid since we can hammer)... We can only afford like 4 gun uses on a civ? One or two more if we get 1 or 2 of the mafia mixed in with that? Right? It's too early for me to be mathing. But it's a general point.

Then once we have a baddie killed, players who had them in their subset but chose not to shoot them can be looked at more in depth. Plus that's a way to try and force the mafia into bussing if they do get the gun.

I don't believe in townreading. It's nonsensical BS people make claims about and then think they're right on, because, *gasp*, yea, obviously you're statistically going to be right most of the time, there are more town. Kind of how the game works.

I wanted to vote for her at that point because I didn't especially like other places votes were going and thought she had one, but you'd already moved off her. Plus I thought she'd consider shooting Mac, which is something I would've been okay with (still am, but less relevant now).

She'd make my shortlist of people to shoot if I got the gun, currently, yes. So you wanting to shoot her specifically works for me. It doesn't affect my read on Mac, it's too early to be looking at connecting people as teammates.

I don't agree with that. Doing it at night leaves to much space for the mafia, if a member gets a gun, to time it out where they can later claim they killed based on the thread at x time because they wouldn't later be available, or whatever else. If a short-list of names is decided on during the day, we get: a) anyone who goes outside of that looking really bad & b) if one or more mafia is on the shortlist and someone doesn't kill them (and also hasn't been poisoned by the time a mafia who they could've chosen is killed), they look really bad.

we have that too? if you try to post when there are new posts it takes you to a preview so you can read up if you want but I usually just skip through it lol

Pretty sure there is also an auto-refresh, it's just that's it's set to 2 minutes. Or I grabbed but have not yet installed the extension and it defaults at 2 minutes. I'll look into this evening.

We should give the gun to someone with a subset of players they're allowed to choose from to shoot.

If they go outside that, they got shot next.

I think it's better then deciding on a specific player because that keeps mafia from being able to control the conversation easily.

And at 13 players, 10/3 split... Assuming the gun always gets used (no ties, but in most cases that should be easy enough to avoid since we can hammer)... We can only afford like 4 gun uses on a civ? One or two more if we get 1 or 2 of the mafia mixed in with that? Right? It's too early for me to be mathing. But it's a general point.

Then once we have a baddie killed, players who had them in their subset but chose not to shoot them can be looked at more in depth. Plus that's a way to try and force the mafia into bussing if they do get the gun.
