Incredibles up to 180+

Hopefully Ant Man does better than the tracking as well. May get 120+ out of it.

This Friday will be a big one with Incredibles 2 opening, and to a much lesser extent, Tag.

It got a load of buzz at CinemaCon so I had to take a shot on it. TBH I probably wont see it myself, but it looks like it'll be a useful awards round grab.

Re: Fantasy Movie Thread - In-Season Thread

timmer wrote: Thu Jun 07, 2018 9:22 pm Guys, in terms of the rules... first, it was posted at the very start. Second, it was mentioned after that at least once. I can't be held responsible if some of you missed it. Third, it's a key rule! It's strategy. If someone has a stinker of a film opening early, and is expected to have an awards contender open late, you have to ask yourself... do I grab them early, and suck up the box office of the stinker film, knowing that if their late-opening awards hopeful film gets bumped to 2019, I'm screwed? Or do I let them sit there, available, and wait for the stinker film to open and disappear from contention? That way, I can grab them after the turd opens and now if their awards film gets bumped, I'm not out anything, but... if I wait too long to grab them, someone else may take them, and I lose out...

It's a great risk/reward rule!

And of COURSE we have to be able to grab actors and films late in the year... it's free agency. It would not make any sense, if a film that right now NO ONE has on their radar, suddenly gets big at a festival... for us to say sorry, its sudden best actor hopeful is simply not a part of our league because 2 weeks ago, he was in some indie film...

So hopefully we can move on and continue the league as is. I'll just let Rico's team remain as a ghost.
Yikes Timmer this complaint is so 10 hours ago, man we've moved on, catch up. Gosh.

I haven't, and admittedly its not in my wheelhouse at all so I'm pretty meh on the whole thing. I'm sure for who its meant for, it'll be a fun experience. Just like I'm sure Comic Book movies, crime/mob movies, etc which I love people aren't hot on. Hell, Hook is my favorite movie probably of all time.

I'd rank the Disney four as follows: The Last Jedi > The Force Awakens > Rogue One > Solo
The correct answer is TLJ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>TFA>RO>SOLO

Golden wrote: Mon May 28, 2018 10:46 pm I do not understand how this is grim - it's probably on track to $700-800m, not at all bad. If it was a Marvel movie or a Pixar movie this would hardly be called grim.

For my part though, I thought Solo was a massive improvement over Rogue One. It actually made me believe in stand alone movies, and I want another one based on the ending. However, I'm still more interested in time periods far removed from the existing saga.
I think its a matter of comparing Solo's performance to its predecessors (Rogue One being the least successful at ~150mil I think, maybe ~130?)

Its not "bad" but like, any X-hundred million dollars is still money.

Anyway, box office as a stand alone metric isn't super great, its just that 100 million over a holiday weekend for a Star Wars film is under-performing. IDK.

Like I said, I wasn't gonna watch it regardless but I was definitely thinking 140+.

And presented by pre-movie marketing as a real deal (trailer shots afterwards non-existent etc.), which in my view includes him showing up in the credit list and all. That's all I'm saying and where I stand on.

To put it another way, I regard Slingshot from Suicide Squad to be have been a properly cast actor, regardless of the nature in which his plotline turned to dud, compared to which with Crews I see nothing but a highbrow bait and switch.

Re: Fantasy Movie Thread - In-Season Thread

Ricochet wrote: Sun May 20, 2018 2:10 pm Fully aware of that. For one, it's not that kind of a cameo as the Goldblum example and also not the kind I was bringing up.

For two, for all intents and purposes, Crews is credited (see him on IMDb), so he'll probably fly, but I just felt this movie (tongue-in-cheek-to-the-bone as it is) presented its own exception. The "use" or "appearance" of this actor was a complete joke - an engineered one. A cameo in anything but name masquerading instead as a secondary role. Again, this being Deadpool after all, he might as well have just shouted his Old Spice line and it would have been the exact same thing. If we're on board to roll with this, then enjoy your 40 mil, by all means. :)
I understand the criticism, and I also understand that obviously me wanting to keep the credit/cash is biased, but IMO Terry fits the bill of a points eligible actor. He's credited in the film, he has a speaking role and a name. The length and nature of his appearance in the film is less relevant to the rules (That he be credited in the film as having a role).

I dunno, I get the opposition to it, but I think he counts. I'll litigate for the points if I have to, but I don't think I will have to.

Re: Fantasy Movie Thread - In-Season Thread

timmer wrote: Wed Apr 18, 2018 1:40 am An important point to mention re: actors. An actor must be listed in the credits of a film to count towards it. This might seem obvious, however there are occasional quickie cameos that actors choose to not make official that will not count.

The example of this that I can point to was from last year because it caused a ripple in my other league. If you watch the end credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, one of the floating heads that pops up is none other than Jeff Goldblum, in his Grandmaster get-up, before Thor: Ragnarok actually showed who that character was. So, the Goldblum owner in that league demanded a chunk of the GOTG2 box office since Goldblum "appeared" in the film. However, our bible is imdb, and imdb clearly shows him as "uncredited". Thus... no box office in that case.

So remember that, in case it shows up again in this league. An actor must be in the credits, to count towards box office.
