Ya, was he allowed to target himself all 4 nights, or did he have 2 from sending N1, N3 (or N2, N4) and 2 from prizes? There is one more thing I wanted to address: "The Eloh Incident."

She was Brooks. I think everybody and their brother knew that by Night 2 or 3.

She struggled hard on how to get people to believe her about johns. I told her she should make a case on him. She asked me if she could just say she had info.

I told her she could say that, and I feel justified in that permission.

I have seen multiple players claim info. I have seen players claim info that was bullshit (DH, still looking at you, ass).

So I had no problem with her saying she had info. Just because she played her role clumsily doesn't prove anything, if that makes any sense. And regarding punishing her, that was out of the question. Even if I didn't know that Shawshank was going to kill her (which they did, a natural consequence of pretty much outing oneself), I don't modkill. And if I did, it would further legitimize her claim. I oppose Modkilling 100% of the time. Don't do the job of the Mafia as the Host.

The last thing I planned was to allow the remaining players to choose a piece of contraband and not give Red a shipment. That was your last Night poll.

With the beers, you got two choices.

The choices were linked to a player by initial. Bs were bwt and bullzeye, Stout was S~V~S, etc. Lager was Lizzy, I think.

Suppose you chose American Pale Ale (A Person) and Stout (S~V~S).

You would learn:

A Person is not Tommy Williams (S~V~S' role)
S~V~S is not Andy Dufrense (A Person's role)

What's interesting is that some picked their own options alongside someone else.

So S~V~S found out that:

Russtifinko is not Tommy Williams.
S~V~S is not Rooster.

Ephraim is little, but I held him up to the poll and he pointed to the letter I, which Russ chose.

Russ got to use a dead power. He chose thellama73's, so he couldn't be killed that Night.

When you chose work assignments, you couldn't vote for the people on your job.

Abigail's picture (S~V~S won this too) gave her contraband. She chose reefer.

Naming Simon's bird won S~V~S a role check. She picked boo.

I only had THREE people do this challenge. You passed on a role check people. Remember that.

I would never create a game with results that hinged on religion or politics. Asking about your favorite Bible verse or Maine having capital punishment were just things for you to do- no game-related events for those.

Parole tickled me, because you all seemed to think this was a prize to take someone off the poll.

The person you voted for (assuming this was a con) would become an independent. This Indy could not be Night killed (hence bwt's survival), but all his received votes would be cumulative, as he considered suicide on the outside world. If the DA voted for him, he would return to prison and resume his old role and status.

Thank you for playing. I love having you as a player, regardless of the outcome. You're spirited and you don't take shit from people. You make up your mind and then you make other people agree with you. I like that, even if it doesn't work out all the time.

Each player was assigned a book for the Night 1 poll (reverse alphabetical order). The order in which you voted it determined how many roles I counted down to rule out a role and give you info.

For example, MR, who voted for The Brothers Karamazov, learned that Vompatti was not the Warden.

Prologue:

People were not far off regarding who would cry out first. The winning poll choice would be whoever voted first. By casting the first vote (even though he changed it later), thellama73 became the winning choice, and for that MovingPictures07 and johns2jj won cigarettes.

Day 1:

The most amusing part of Day 1 for me was Mongoose getting someone to trade votes with her. In her case, she attracted not one, but three votes, by having A Person vote for her. Thus Hadley- Shawshank’s killer- came close to getting lynched on Day 1. It was also risky for Mongoose voting A Person by herself. Had A Person been Fat Ass, she would have outed herself.

The DA was straight up independent. He got to choose four roles at the beginning of the game. He could not be Night killed. He won if he survived to the end and his chosen four roles were dead. Logan chose four bad guys, somewhat aligning himself with the civilians.

We're not supposed to have dirty books in the Shawshank prison library, but we do. Things like Tropic of Cancer and Sadopaideia. I don't read that shit. It's not for me, though some cons get off on it. If they can read, that is.

A Person wasn't reading any of that. Well, not beforehand anyway. He was in the library looking over something called The Nervous Horse. I've never read anything from it. Maybe you have. He didn't get very far into that literature, I'm sorry to say.

Some horny thug brought him an old copy of a book called Teleny. At knifepoint, he forced A Person to read passages from the book while he took his time enjoying himself.

The depravity here sickens me. A person ought to be able to be left alone.

I hear there's this fella named Red who can smuggle things into the prison. I admire his stealth and business acumen, I really do.

There's this asshole named Blue though. He's giving away things. Things he must've stole from Red's last shipment. I don't like it.

Lizzy was in the exercise yard. I'd like to say he was minding his own business, but I can't say that for sure. But whatever they did, Lizzy never made it.

I couldn't have been drunk from just two beers, but I still can't believe what I just saw happen.

Once in awhile, the colossal pricks that run this joint can seem downright magnanimous.

They offered a couple of beers to any inmate who'd been well behaved. Something to celebrate the holidays with if you've been nice instead of naughty. Different kinds of beer too. I sure enjoyed mine.

What two beers did you have?

I've never had anybody put anything in my mouth I didn't want.

My father (so I'm told- I've never met him) gifted me with a stature that made people think twice about fucking with me. I told you I was big. I like to think I can pass that good fortune on to some of the smaller guys in the prison who don't mean any harm to anyone, just want to do their time in peace and not want to be anyone's footstool or piece of ass. I get that. So from time to time I look after certain guys who could use a friend- a real friend. I don't do it for everybody. Like everything good around here- loyalty, valuables, hope- I'm scarce. I can't save the world, even if my world is in here.

I've been looking after someone. He's relatively new here and has a good sense of humor, despite the place. He used to steal jewelry, but swears that his thieving days are behind him. He wants to get out and find a girl and start a family. I can admire that.

A few weeks after he arrived, that prick johns2jj came up to him and tried to get him to get on his knees and open his mouth. I didn't like that very much, as you might imagine.

According to a book I read from the prison library, Maine hasn't had the death penalty since 1887. Twenty-one people were executed in this part of the country, all of them for murder except one, who was convicted of treason. The last person they hanged was Daniel Wilkinson, a fugitive. He died slowly of strangulation because his noose wasn't tied properly. This fueled the ire of the abolitionists who said capital punishment was wrong, and two years later, they got their wish.

Even some of the convicts who are here on lesser chargers are in favor of it. They imagine, I suppose, that they'd have fewer black eyes and fewer sleepless nights.

Well, what do you think? Should Maine bring back the death penalty?

My mother believed in guardian angels. She would tell me about them when I was a boy, that I had one watching over me, protecting me.

I wish I could believe her. I can't say I've been protected as I would be, if indeed there was somebody up there keeping an eye on me. And I can't say other people have been protected either if it were true for them. Or maybe the angels are a lot like us. Unreliable. Spiteful. Maybe even the angels need a smoke break now and again.

Coming to Shawshank, though, did soil my perception of guards a little bit.

Guards are supposed to protect something. Keep it safe. "The guards in prison are supposed to protect the outside world from you cons," I can hear you saying. I suppose that's fair enough.

I didn't see any guardian angels in that riot this morning. Just fed up prisoners with improvised weapons having their way with someone they long believed to be a great threat to them. It was clear they'd had about enough.

Nope- no guardian angels at all.
