Rewind back to Battlestar Galactica- in that game I started a long-term posting gimmick in which each game I play has me starting every post in each game with the same letter of the alphabet. BSG was letter A. Spider-verse was letter R. It’s taking me this long because I don’t play very often. People also forget that I am doing it because I play so seldom. Eighteen down, eight to go.

I used to do more obvious gimmicks with my posts- pictures, haiku, magic 8-ball, etc- but this one is a subtle, slow burn. I should put it in my signature, really, but I don’t know if I can link to each game without maxing out my sig character limit.
I look forward to seeing how you manage with X.
Racket game with a low post cap will probably be the way to go there. I have read the dictionary (and still own one), so I will be well prepared for that quest when the time comes.

Re: Spider-verse Mafia [DAY 6]

Remember folks, railroading G-Man for little to no reason whatsoever is always a bad idea.

I kept quiet when Made and Michelle were claiming my role. I didn’t want to claim and add to soup mania. Claiming made it too easy for the baddies to roll us.

All of my posts this game began with the letter R.

Thanks for the game, LC. You are a flavor champ.

Right. I'm not going to roleclaim because:

1) I haven't done that sort of thing in so long that it now seems foreign and dirty to me even when it is legal.

2) in the offhand chance I'm spared, it would help out the baddie soup list.

Lynching me will help the baddies with their POE a little, but it will also be a double whammy for the civs.

Master Radishes wrote: Wed Feb 10, 2021 2:01 pm Here's something.

You over explain.
Master Radishes wrote: Wed Feb 10, 2021 2:01 pm Now gimme 500 words telling me why that's a bad reason.

Retractions, corrections, and doubling back are not things that I care to engage in. You see, I like to be clear about expressing what I think at any given time, so I am cautious when going through the process if construction a sentence. When writing anything of considerable substance, my proofreading and revision process is quite formidable. Whether it be an original and organic statement, a declaration, an interrogative piece, a response, or even a quick and snappy retort, I want it to convey as close to my exact intention as possible.

This is a difficult thing to accomplish in a situation such as this, given that we are not in each other’s presence to hear the precise intonation of each other’s words and the personality behind them. What we are left with is a suboptimal exchange wherein we impart our own imagined intonations, accents, and diction upon the words of each person playing this game. It is bad enough that we all possess our own individual biases when it comes to phraseology, definitions, and cultural vernacular, but the inability to hear how such words are meant to be conveyed impedes clarity of communication.

If a statement or post of mine over-explains something, it is suggested that I said more than I needed to in that particular moment. But, as I explained above, my process of posting is deliberate, and not just because I hold prescriptivist views on grammar, syntax, and word choice. How then is it possible for me to over-explain something when my proofreading and revising process results in a post that contains every word that I hold to be necessary for proper thought expression so as to not be misunderstood? I think the problem may reside in a difference in definitions of the word ‘over-explain,’ which sets us on the slippery slope of communicative relativism.

Your accusation against me took me by surprise, considering I have a post count that is below both the median and the average for players in this game. How can someone be guilty of posting so little and yet posting ‘too much’ at the same time? I looked back through my ISO, and I disagree with your assessment of my posts. Only one of my posts is lengthy enough due to my own words to occupy more space than what my iPhone screen can display. That was the post in which I provided the group with the correct Day 2 votes, so it is farcical to say that post too much.

Do you maintain that even in my posts of but two or three short paragraphs that I am over-explaining? As stated before, my posts contain every word I intend them to. In fact, since the burden of proof is on the accuser, I challenge you to provide me in-game examples of me over-explaining. Please begin by sharing your definition of the word ‘over-explain’ and all of its derivatives. Once established, we can review the posts that you believe prove me guilty.

Remarkable. Four or five people agreeing that I’m kinda sus creates a consensus? I can’t help it if some of you know-it-alls are that bad at reading me. It’s either that or you want others to believe it. Or your fishing, but my auto-sus of you is boxing that option out like Marcin Gortat.

Re: Spider-verse Mafia [DAY 3]

Really, though, has anyone provided any concrete evidence against me? Like anything linking me to Michelle or Bo? Or any actions that seems predicated upon baddieness? Where’s the beef?

I own that I’m coasting on posting. That’s just me. But I’m still observing and I’ve been able to keep abreast of the current goings-on. I’m being guarded with my opinions still because I’m slow to catch onto things in most games, let alone one this size. You can call it excuses, but an excuse can still be the truth.

Right now I see a bunch of hopping around and throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. I wasn’t concerned about it Day 1 because that’s Day 1 standard. It’s Day 3 and we’ve nabbed two baddies. This kind of free-wheeling, low-evidence, party-wagon stuff is more likely to come from a baddie looking to hedge against recent losses by serving up a half-baked case on an easy-ish target. I just have to figure out if the baddie(s) is/are the ones starting it or the ones hopping in when it hits second gear.

Remembering that I take a few days to put things together in my head is too much to ask of those who might remember that. It still annoys me though, and I have to look through who has been quick to latch onto this fauxmentum. One of my gifts seems to be that I have a knack for spotting baddie BS cases against me, so we’ll see if I still have that magic.

I’m not that concerned about Epi’s suspicion, because I have a civ read on him (it may be because he’s one of the few players in this game that I have a good memory of playing with). My guess is that he’s just trying to rattle the cage and see if anyone squeals. I’m more interested in those who were quick to be agreeable to the new shiny sus of G-Man.

And can we please get accurate screenshots of the EOD poll for God’s sake?!? The screenshots I have are to big to attach and I don’t have time to save them to Google and all that right now. I changed my vote to 112 with literally six seconds left on the clock. Before I did that, Kyle and Michelle were tied, so maybe I should do a curtsy and say you’re welcome.

Here are your REAL vote tallies:

112:
-Daisy
-G-Man
-Epi

Grogu:
-Chardonnay
-112
-Falcon

Kylemii:
-Mac
-reywaS
-Nutella
-Seanzie
-Daughter
-Marmot
-Michelle

Michelle:
-Radish
-Jack
-Grogu
-KZA
-Guillotine (aka Gil)
-Made
-Esooa
-Kylemii

Reywas:
-Quas

Re: Spider-verse Mafia [NIGHT 2]

Rejoicing in the successful lynch of Michelle. I had been fumbling my way through Kyle’s ISO and wasn’t feeling right about my vote, so I switched to 112. I think Epi said something that reminded me of her 3-p baddie-tangential role. I was down with the logic of eliminating that type of role earlier, so it felt like less of a cop out. Sorry for not announcing it with the vote tag. It was late and formatting on while phone-posting always slows me down. I didn’t want to accidentally burn my night post (not that I have much to make them meaningful with anyway though).

My question for those who stuck with Kyle (aka Mac, nutella, reywaS, Seanzie, Daughter, and Marmot)- what was compelling in your compare/contrast with Michelle?

If I make it through the night, I will ISO both Bo and Michelle on Day 3. Maybe we can find another foothold there to keep the momentum going.

As much as its lame I think we have to let them self resolve.
It really makes no difference. Every scenario ends in the real one dying today/tonight because of the soup kill. Let's just take out the obv scum and on the sliiim chance we're wrong it just means the mafia kill one fewer person in their soup tonight.
If we don't kill one of them today I'd say chances are high they're both alive tomorrow tbh. The cop can check one. Tracker is alive. Its optimal to ignore them.
Right. Mac makes sense here. Plus the chance of screwing up the soup kill list if they’re both civvies.

Rather long fishing trip you took. I’m not sure what to make of it, but...

1) I’m glad you came clean when you did rather than wasting the whole phase. Half (more like 40%) is still suboptimal, as it may have sapped momentum from the game on a day that already has plenty of distractions.

2) I’m glad I didn’t get caught up in your ruse. I knew I wasn’t going to be around much this phase, so I’m glad that I can still try to sort something out in the few hours I can devote to the game tomorrow.

3) I’m glad that I could take yet another screenshot to mull over! Which of KSA, nutella, Epi, Gil, Seanzie, Michelle, Grogu, and Quas are sleazy mafia opportunists?

I am confused about something that perhaps @Long Con can explain:

We have the screenshot of the Day 1 poll, but that screenshot does not match what the last few vote tag votes in the thread were. What gives? Are the vote tags in the thread accurate? The screenshot says "poll runs through" instead of "poll ended at" but how long before the poll ended was that screenshot taken? Per the screenshot, there was a tie between Tony and reywaS and yet no one seems to be talking about that. Is that because Tony actually secured a true lead in the poll?

I'm trying to put a spreadsheet together and this issue has me confuzzled.

No way those first four are sloppy teammates, though max two of them could be. I’ll have to see who has been the most open to bouncing around. Day 1 is usually when baddies let the civs savage themselves. Curious.

Right. 112 is. I goofed on that.

Right now my problem this game seems to be that I can’t get a feel for any of the trains because so many of them are new to me. I was going to see if any of them look icky enough to avoid, but that isn’t in the cards it seems.

Reasons for voting- we all need them. I have none at the moment. That needs to change in the next two hours so I can get on with my evening.

Rusty like a wheelbarrow that only gets used three times a year. That’s about as often as I play anymore, and my civ game has always been lacking. I don’t keep up with all the new faces and meta, so I have a tendency to just stand in the middle of the stream and see what happens, rather than swim with it or against it. I am here for the experience of a flavorful LC game, not so much for the playing of the game itself. I am filling a role slot and present. I don’t intend to come off as defensive; I’m just disinterested in participating at the same level as most of you.

Posting this for posterity. This is all so hilarious to me. All these great mafia players, or so I’ve been led to believe, found baddie Reywas based on what exactly? There’s a lot to read and I haven’t been able to find the actual reason for the season. I’ll assume it’s because I said I was gonna use tarot to place my vote? Lmao

Ok then. Another reason I find this so hysterical is because after I signed up but before the roles went out I said in the discord, “I’m gonna end up lynched on day one for being weird.”

So, either you guys are just not that good at mafia OR some of you are full of shit.

Guys Mac is so good you just GOTTA trust his day one reads, guys. Ya just gotta.

Lol well at least you can’t use that line ever again, Big Mac.

I’m not mafia. Ffs anyone that has played with me before and thinks I would say some Tarot shit like that if I had teammates to think about...well you aren’t very mafia bright tbh.

Remember that no one is ever as good at mafia as they may boast, and that one of the key components of mafia is the ability to convince people after the fact that you weren’t as full of shit as you really were.

Right, but neither does having more than 50 posts halfway through Day 1. Sub-50 posters are officially my towncore for Day 1. Epi, Michelle, KZA, Bo, Chardonay, Marmot, reywaS, Tony, and Enrique- let’s Captain Planet this shizzle.

All my post was doing was complaining about all the excessive posting and justifying what will be my low-posting nature. Why do you rush to assume it had anything to do with my alignment?

You know I’m never a threat on Day 1 one way or another, so why buy into whatever spurred this train on me? I need to go back and figure that one out to I guess.
I never said your postcount had anything to do with your alignment jesus christ. It's the content within
Really? My standard-issue, paper-thin, treading-water content is why you voted for me? Then this game is desperate for something to happen, despite all the posts.

Also, I don’t know how you got from my last post that the prior post meant anything regarding my postcount. I was highlighting the fact that one pointless quality about me is no more meaningful than one pointless quality about you.

Correct me if im wrong but they did the bulk of the pushing on my slot. You supported with a vote and not much else
correct.
So there are reasonable scum motives there.

If theoretically all the other players involved with this exchange ended up flipping town I'd say you were the scum that hoped it would take off.
for what purpose? why would i need a wagon on you to take off?
I mean there are lots of plausible reasons: Raywas is your buddy, laying ground work for a push tomarrow, wanting to build better rapport w/ Doom or Nuetella.

Raywas is probably most damning evidence of scum!you if Ray flips scum.

Im not prepared to read hard into any of them atm, but i do Scum lean you
reywaS had fewer votes than 2 or 3 other people at the time i switched my vote to you. 112 and G-Man at minimum.
IDK G-man but i have an immediate bias against him for stealing my IRL nickname. There cant be two "G-Men" >:(

loaded question, but as mafia would you try to keep 112 to endgame?
Really? That’s cool! I have been going by G-Man online since 2005 though, so unless you’ve been going by that nickname IRL for longer, I’m not inclined to give it up. The good news is that nobody calls me G-Man IRL, so we can establish a joint-custody arrangement. You keep it IRL and I will keep it online. Fair?

Reading for tone and phrasing is all I have in general and all I care to read for on Day 1. There’s too much word vomit and too many players in this game for me to form any other kind of basis on anyone. Half these players just blend together in my brain until someone posts something that stands out.

Mac/Nanook/Epi look like confidant town that are feeling themselves in the moment.

made seems weird to me tonally in his approach to the guillotine wagon... Maybe apprehensive is the word im looking for

nuetella push on 112 is interesting to me as she seems to drop Guilotine to push 112 instead. Unless i misunderstood and Guilotine still has scum equity to her.
Rage and aggression are not the same thing. Neither are poking people on Day 1 and whatever omgus demon has possessed Guillotine (Guill for short, or maybe Gil?). It’s Day 1- don’t flail under pressure. What pressure even is there? There’s no reason to get so bent out of shape. But this is my first game with Gil, so maybe this is normal for them. Someone else will have to let me know that.

Mac, Epi, and Nanook feel more at ease than confident. That’s probably because they know that Day 1 is for Day 1-ing, and not reading too much into things except reactions to their bait.
